Under the supervision of a Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician fills and labels patients' prescriptions, prepares and assists in compounding medications, and manages the ordering, stock control, storage and delivery of medications and medical supplies. In the Level 4 capacity, the role also leads and supervises Level 1–3 pharmacy assistants and coordinates retail operations, quality systems and workplace compliance. In Australia, there are currently no legal requirements for licensing or registration for the occupation of Pharmacy Technician.

Task & responsibilities

1. Level 1, 2 & 3 duties, and

- Dispensary Support and Medication Handling (under Pharmacist supervision)
- Refer prescriptions to Pharmacists and assist in preparing medications.
- Fill and label patients' prescriptions under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Compound products under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Support clinical Pharmacists in routine work, such as screening patients or gathering information for Pharmacist review.
- Assist with medication audits, reports and reviews.

- Stock, Ordering & Supply Management

- Record details of, place orders for, take stock of, and store medications and medical supplies, and deliver them to patients.
- Manage stock levels and inventory across the pharmacy
- Order or delegate ordering for retail departments. Maintain systems and policies for ordering,



and liaise with the Operations Manager and other team leaders for bulk/group buys.
- Coordinate pricing of S2 and retail items in accordance with the Pricing Policy and in consultation with the Operations Manager.

- Lead Team Effectiveness

- Delegate, Supervise, Coach, Mentor & Task retail level 1, 2 & 3 pharmacy assistants.
- Champion & Supervise Training, especially for compliance (SMP, WHS and Fair Work) and S2 S3 training requirements.
- Champion & Supervise use of the Monthly Checklist.
- Champion Digital Competency to enhance productivity.
- Review Information Management daily and establish priorities for the team.
- Lead and Supervise Merchandising of the retail space.

- Maintain Work Health & Safety

- Complete or delegate T17D Loss Prevention Checklists as required in the Monthly Checklist.
- Complete or delegate the Equipment Calibration and Safety Systems Schedule for your pharmacy.

- Develop & Sustain the Referred Items (Destination) Categories in consultation with the Operations Manager:

- Test Blood Glucose and Advise on Equipment and Services for Diabetes Management. Manage NDSS ordering and distribution.
- Assist Customers with Wound Care, WHS and First Aid Products. Develop as a niche specialties.
- Support the Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Develop as a niche specialty.
- Support the development of Referred Items (Destination) Categories in the Referred Item (Destination) Category Schedule.

- Manage Pharmacy Sales and Service Delivery

- Maintain Customer Accounts.
- Maintain account groups if required.
- Maintain the Accounts Checklist in the Operations Handbook as required.
- Issue customer accounts, exempt those being spot checked by Pharmacy Manager.

- Manage Pharmacy Premises, Equipment & Merchandise





- 'Walk the Store' daily to observe stock levels, cleanliness, neatness and relevance of advertising/merchandising.
- Develop & maintain the Pricing Policy in consultation with the Operations Manager and other Retail Managers.
- Order or delegate ordering for Retail Departments (all less S3 and S4/8). Maintain systems and policies for Retail ordering. Liaise with Operations Manager and other Retail Managers for bulk/group buys.
- Coordinate pricing items in S2 and Retail departments in accordance with Pricing Policy and in consultation with the Operations Manager (for any group or internet price implications).

- Maintain the pharmacy Quality Management systems and Champion Continuous Improvement

- Maintain evidence in support of QCPP assessments.
- Maintain Procedure & Templates as required by the Risk Management review schedule.
- Promote use and maintenance of the Operations Manual.

Any other duties as required by the employer. When not tasked in core business, or by proprietor, seek to support other business units.

Qualification & experience

- AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Pharmacy (or an equivalent pharmacy qualification) or at least 3 years work experience in lieu of formal qualification.
- 1-2 years of previous experience working as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Assistant.
- Demonstrated experience in dispensing support, prescription processing and medication handling under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Experience in stock control, inventory management and ordering of medications and pharmacy products.
- Proven ability to lead, supervise, coach and mentor pharmacy support staff.
- Sound knowledge of community pharmacy operations, quality assurance processes and pharmacy compliance requirements.
- Experience using pharmacy dispensing software and point-of-sale systems.
- Robust organisational, communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritise competing tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, quality management and continuous improvement.
