Overview

Sydney Health & Care Services (SHCS) is growing across Greater Sydney. We're looking for reliable Home Care and Community Support Workers who can support participants living with mental health challenges — including complex behaviours and dual diagnosis (drug & alcohol) in South Coogee, Whalan and Chipping Norton.

Participant Details

South Coogee

- 1) Mature Male participant with active Alcohol and Drug Abuse, physical aggression and suicidal ideation behaviours. Supports: (Male or female support worker). Shifts: Monday to Sunday 9am to 12pm.
- 2) Male participant diagnosed with schizophrenia and has a history of medication non‑compliance. History of alcohol use prior to hospital admission, alcohol dependency – does drink but not flagged as a significant concern. Heavy smoker and smokes in presence of support workers at home. Very disorganised and occasional delusional thoughts. Shifts: Monday to Sunday 7:30am to 10:30am and 4:30pm to 7:30pm – assistance with daily living activities. CP supports: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 1pm to 3pm.

Chipping Norton

- 3) Mature Male participant diagnosed with Dementia. Assistance with travel/transport and social support. Can become aggressive/controlling when staff are driving. Shifts: Monday and Wednesday 10:30am to 12:30pm.

Whalan

- 4) Male participant with non‑violent criminal history and intellectual disability, community access required. Shifts: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday 10am to 12pm.

Key Responsibilities

- Experience supporting people with complex needs,



ABI, and/or mental health.
- Supervision and prompting of medication administration.
- Strong emotional regulation and calm communication style.
- Use validation, reassurance, and redirection during distress.
- Respect choice and control, including refusal of support.
- Follow Behaviour Support Plans and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate, objective documentation.
- Personal care and manual handling when necessary.
- Assistance with hygiene, cleaning, and bedding.

Essential Requirements

- A reliable car with comprehensive insurance (mandatory), Australian driver's licence, and willingness to travel across Sydney.
- Proven reliability, professionalism, and excellent communication.
- Minimum 6 months experience in mental health, disability support, or community services (or Certificate IV in Mental Health).
- Calm under pressure; robust judgment and boundaries.
- Smartphone literacy for rostering and documentation.
- NDIS Worker Screening Check.

- Working With Children Check (NSW).
- First Aid & CPR.
- Police Check.
- Unrestricted work rights in Australia.
