TheTax Manageris responsible for ensuring the organisation and its managed investment vehicles meet all tax compliance, reporting, governance, and risk management obligations across Australia and selected offshore jurisdictions.
Reporting to the Head of Tax, the role provides technical tax expertise, supports strategic transactions, manages tax risk, and partners with finance and business stakeholders to deliver practical, commercially focused tax solutions.
The position covers direct and indirect taxes, tax reporting, regulatory engagement, international tax matters, and continuous process improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Reporting
Manage the preparation and review of income tax returns, trust distributions, tax statements, and tax-effect accounting workpapers.
Oversee GST, FBT, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, and other indirect tax obligations.
Maintain tax compliance calendars and ensure timely lodgements and payments.
Prepare and review tax provisions, reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures.
Coordinate external advisers and support external audit requirements.
Tax Advisory & Transaction Support
Provide tax advice on business initiatives, new products, restructures, capital raisings, acquisitions, divestments, and investment transactions.
Support tax structuring for funds, real estate investments, financing arrangements, and cross-border activities.
Identify and assess tax risks and opportunities, providing practical recommendations to stakeholders.
Advise on complex areas including trust taxation, tax consolidation, transfer pricing, international tax, and indirect taxes.
Operate and enhance the organisation's tax risk management framework.
Support audit readiness, regulatory reviews,
assurance programs, and revenue authority engagements.
Maintain robust tax documentation, controls, and governance records.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess business impacts.
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Management
Develop and improve tax policies, procedures, controls, and reporting processes.
Enhance tax data integrity, workflow efficiency, and system utilisation.
Partner with Finance, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and business teams to provide timely tax guidance.
Build and maintain effective relationships with advisers, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
International Tax
Coordinate offshore tax compliance activities with local advisers.
Maintain transfer pricing documentation and intercompany arrangements.
Monitor international tax exposures and cross-border compliance obligations.
Requirements:
Qualifications
CA or CPA qualified.
Degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax, or Law.
Postgraduate tax qualification (completed or in progress) highly regarded.
Experience
Significant tax experience within financial services, funds management, investment management, property, lending, or similarly complex environments.
Demonstrated experience managing tax compliance, reporting, audit support, and tax advisory activities.
Experience working within multi-entity group structures and dealing with external advisers and regulators.
Technical Knowledge
Solid knowledge of Australian tax legislation and tax-effect accounting.
Experience with:Trust taxation and AMITs
Tax consolidation
GST, FBT, PAYG withholding, and payroll tax
Landholder duty and stamp duty
Transfer pricing and international tax
Cross-border financing and investment structures
