National Channel & Distribution Manager — Independent GroceryAre you ready to start your career as a National Channel & Distribution Manager — Independent Grocery team member with a Company that really values your growth (and snacks you with macadamias along the way)?
Nutworks is entering a genuinely pivotal 12 months.
We're deciding how best to grow our independent grocery footprint beyond South East Queensland — and the model isn't locked in yet.
It may mean running our own or an outsourced field team alongside a national Metcash listing, or it may mean appointing an exclusive or state-based distribution partner to represent us into major independent groups.
We need an experienced operator who can work confidently across either path, help us finalise the decision, and then own execution of whichever model we choose. This isn't a maintenance role, and it isn't built around one fixed model.
You'll be walking into live decisions still in motion, and we need someone who has genuinely done this before in more than one form — whether that's running a direct field sales/Metcash channel, or managing a distributor partnership and holding them accountable for growth.About UsAt Nutworks, we're more than just premium macadamia producers — we're creators of joyful, flavour-filled experiences that delight customers across Australia and beyond.
Based in the beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland, we're growing fast and looking for team players who love building strong customer relationships and thrive in a supportive, collaborative setting. The Role12-Month Maternity Leave Contract - Yandina, QLD (with travel across QLD/NSW/VIC as required)Reporting to the Sales Manager, you'll own domestic independent grocery growth in whatever form it takes — direct channel management, distributor partner management, or a combination of both.
This is a genuine opportunity to help shape a channel strategy, not just execute someone else's plan.About the RoleReporting to the Sales Manager,
you'll own domestic independent grocery growth in whatever form it takes — direct channel management, distributor partner management, or a combination of both.
This is a genuine opportunity to help shape a channel strategy, not just execute someone else's plan.Key ResponsibilitiesDepending on which coverage model we finalise, your day-to-day will lean one of two ways — but we need someone capable of both:If we run direct: own the Metcash relationship end-to-end (range reviews, new line forms, driving the SKU range beyond our initial submission), and manage/hold accountable whichever field coverage sits underneath it — an outsourced merchandising agency or a directly employed state team.If we appoint a distributor: own that relationship directly — from evaluating and negotiating commercial terms (margin structure, exclusivity scope, territory, performance benchmarks) through to holding them accountable for named-account targets and call-cycle priority, so we're never just "another brand in the catalogue."Either way: own relationships with Tier 1 MSO groups (Ritchies, Drakes, Cornetts and similar) and drive Tier 2/3 independent distribution, ranging and promotional planning across QLD, NSW and VIC — whether led by us or via a partner.Build and execute territory/cycle plans, trade spend budgets, and promotional calendars in independent grocery.Lead speed-to-market execution for NPD launches — pre-sell, order lock-in, and distribution expansion in the first 90 days of any new listing.Prepare sales forecasts, distribution reporting and margin analysis to support commercial decision-making,
including modelling the trade-offs between direct and distributor-led routes to market.Work closely with the Sales Manager on finalising and then rolling out the national distribution strategy.About YouProven track record in FMCG channel management within independent grocery — this is essential, and we're genuinely open to candidates whose experience comes from direct field sales/Metcash management, from managing distributor partnerships, or both.If your background is direct channel management: existing relationships with Metcash buying teams and/or Tier 1 MSO groups (Ritchies, Drakes, Cornetts) are highly valued, along with experience managing third-party field sales or merchandising agencies. If your background is distributor management: experience negotiating and managing exclusive or state-based distributor agreements — including commercial terms, margin structures, exclusivity scope, and holding a distributor accountable to agreed growth targets.Strong commercial acumen either way — confident working through trade margin, distributor economics, and P&L; trade-offs, and comfortable with ambiguity while the coverage model is still being decided.Able to step into an existing strategy quickly and drive it independently — this is a 12-month contract, so we need someone who can be productive from week one, not month three.Excellent stakeholder management — you'll be representing Nutworks directly with MSO buyers, Metcash, and potentially a distributor partner, often simultaneously. Why Join Us?
Genuine input into a channel strategy at a critical growth inflection point — not a role where the model is already fixed.Work directly with senior management on live commercial decisions, whichever route we take to market.Be part of a growing Australian brand with a strong reputation and a clear runway for independent grocery growth.Competitive contract package, reflective of the seniority and autonomy of the role. While this is an initial 12 month contract, there could be an opportunity to extend and grow within the business for worthy candidates.
