We are seeking a skilled and reliable Metal Machinist to join our workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and modify metal components to precise specifications.

This role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work safely, and produce high-quality parts within required tolerances.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Metal Machinist to join our workshop team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and modify metal components to precise specifications.

This role requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work safely, and produce high-quality parts within required tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up and operate manual and/or CNC machinery, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, and other metalworking equipment.

- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and job instructions.

- Measure, mark, and machine metal materials to required dimensions and tolerances.

- Select appropriate tools, cutting speeds, feeds, fixtures, and machining processes.

- Inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, gauges, and dial indicators.

- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment faults or safety issues.

- Modify, repair, and manufacture metal parts and components as required.

- Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards.

- Maintain a clean, organised,



and safe work area.

- Follow workplace health and safety procedures at all times.

- Work collaboratively with supervisors, fitters, welders, engineers, and other workshop staff.

Skills and Experience

- Previous experience as a Metal Machinist or in a similar machining role.

- Ability to operate manual machining equipment; CNC experience is highly regarded.

- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

- Knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, metals, and tolerances.

- Competence using measuring and inspection tools.

- Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.

- High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Solid commitment to workplace safety.

Qualifications

- Trade qualification in Engineering, Mechanical Trade, Metal Machining, or equivalent experience is preferred.

- Forklift licence, dogging/rigging ticket, or other relevant licences are advantageous but not essential.

- CNC programming experience is advantageous.
