We are looking for an expert Program Test Manager to join X-Team and lead a mission-critical quality engineering initiative for one of our major media & publishing clients. You will be our key representative, driving the quality strategy for a large-scale transformation of a complex, event-driven web authoring platform for Australia’s #1 destination for news, lifestyle, sport, and business content. This is a highly technical role where you’ll sit at the intersection of team leadership, automation architecture, and cutting-edge AI governance.

Your Impact

Lead & Architect: Manage 15–20 engineers (onshore/offshore) and design automation frameworks from scratch using Playwright and Karate DSL.

Innovate with AI: Pioneer AI quality governance by implementing adversarial red-teaming, auditable prompt trails, and LLM observability pipelines to verify AI-generated code.

Modernize Delivery: Own CI/CD quality gates within GitHub Actions and ensure system integrity through consumer-driven contract testing and event-driven architecture validation.

Strategic Enablement: Coordinate testing estimates and execution across 42+ systems while embedding performance, resilience, and security testing into the development lifecycle.

What You Bring to X-Team

To be successful in this role, a candidate must meet the following criteria:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Program Test Manager, successfully leading large-scale, multi-year program testing.
- Proven experience managing onshore and offshore resources.

Technical Skills & Coding

A strong understanding of and experience with unit testing, integration test scripting, manual and automated regression testing,



and general testing methodologies.

Framework Design from Scratch: Proven ability to architect frameworks from first principles, not just write tests within existing, pre-built frameworks.

Hands-on mastery of Playwright (framework development, trace capture, screenshot attachment, CI integration).

Hands-on mastery of Karate DSL (data-driven scenarios, mock servers, pipeline integration).

Contemporary CI/CD & Delivery

Experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD gates, blocking PR checks, and environment promotion.

Strong understanding of REST APIs (contract testing, schema validation) and event-driven asynchronous architectures (message queues, pub/sub, handling race conditions).

Stakeholder Management: Expert communication skills with a track record of coordinating with program, technology, and business teams.

Nice-to-Have Requirements

- Contract Testing Tools: Hands-on experience with Pact (Pact Broker governance and can-i-deploy pipeline checks).
- Cloud Infrastructure: Direct experience with AWS event infrastructure (SNS, SQS, EventBridge, LocalStack).
- Testing Methodologies: Human-authored BDD / Gherkin acceptance criteria written before development begins.
- Automated Security: SAST and DAST embedded as blocking pipeline checks rather than periodic manual sweeps.
- Observability: Production monitoring and integrating observability feedback loops with quality processes.
