ABOUT THE POSITION

Cranbrook School is seeking an exceptional educational leader to lead our Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) Department from the commencement of Term 1, 2027. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Head of Department or an accomplished Assistant Head of Department seeking to lead an innovative and future-focused TAS department within one of Australia's leading independent schools.

As Cranbrook continues its transition to full coeducation and builds upon its tradition of academic excellence, the Head of Department – TAS will play a central role in shaping a contemporary curriculum that inspires creativity, innovation, problem-solving and technological capability. The successful applicant will foster a culture in which students are challenged to design, create and think critically while developing the practical and analytical skills required for success in an increasingly complex world.

The Head of Department provides strategic and educational leadership to the Department, fostering a culture of collaboration, professional excellence and continuous improvement. The successful applicant will lead curriculum development, mentor and develop staff, support outstanding classroom practice, oversee departmental operations and manage the Department's budget. The position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the broader academic life and strategic direction of the School during an exciting period of growth and educational development.

The role will be offered as a permanent appointment to the teaching staff together with a five-year leadership appointment as Head of Department – TAS. This is a full-time position based at the Senior School campus in Bellevue Hill.

SELECTION CRITERIA

- NESA accreditation to teach in New South Wales (required)
- Sound knowledge and understanding the NSW Curriculum
- Knowledge of evidence – reformed pedagogics to positively impact student learning outcomes
- Experience leading a team of teachers
- Capacity to create a motivating and engaging learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of all learners through varied teaching strategies and pedagogical practices to maximise learning
- Experience with a range of online platforms, including Learning Management Systems, to support learning and provide feedback
- Creative mindset and ability to design interactive and dynamic lessons
- Organisational skills to manage schedules, events and student records




- A level of mobility that supports the ability to respond to a first aid / behavioural incident
- Strong physical, mental and emotional health to deal with the required demands and responsibilities of the role
- Current First Aid and CPR qualifications
- A firm commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- A demonstrated understanding of child safety and appropriate behaviours when engaging with children.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK AND WORKING RIGHTS

The successful applicant for this position will be required to hold a current NSW Working with Children Check clearance. Applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a visa with appropriate working rights.
