About Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service

Queensland Indigenous Family Violence Legal Service (QIFVLS) is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled, not-for-profit community legal practice that has been standing with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for more than 15 years.

Established in 2009, with offices in eight regions across Queensland.

We specialise in supporting victims experiencing domestic and family violence and sexual assault by delivering a combination of:

- Legal advice, casework and representation in domestic and family violence, family law, child protection, victims’ assistance, and related areas.
- Court and tribunal advocacy.
- Wellbeing and case management support, helping clients access housing, safety planning, income support and community services.
- Community legal education and prevention initiatives, working with schools, health services and local organisations to build safer futures.

To further strengthen our support services and respond to growing community needs, we are expanding with our dedicated Case Management Officers and Outreach Engagement Teams across Queensland. Enhancing our ability to provide holistic, wrap-around, culturally safe support by reaching more clients in regional and remote areas—ensuring no one is left behind.

Please note, that to perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

About the role

As an Outreach Engagement Officer, you will play a vital role in strengthening relationships and building capacity within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You will lead culturally grounded engagement, facilitate workshops, and promote QIFVLS programs and services ensuring individuals and families are supported accessing appropriate services and supports.





A core part of this role involves travelling to communities across the region, providing you with the opportunity to engage directly and build genuine, trusted relationships. Your on-the-ground presence will be key to fostering meaningful connections, understanding community priorities, and supporting community-led outcomes.

This role is centred on creating meaningful connections—bringing people together through knowledge sharing, community‑led engagement, and strong collaboration with key stakeholders to drive positive and lasting impact.

Outreach Engagement Activities

Develop and manage local community partnerships in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.

Develop community engagement strategic plans including contribution from Case Management Officers (CMO) and Community Family Advocate (CFA)

Network and liaise with community organizations, men’s and women’s groups, government departments, and community justice groups to promote QIFVLS services.

With Community Development Manager (CDM) oversight and pre-approval, represent QIFVLS within the region or community by attending and networking during functions, workshops and forums relevant to the function of the Outreach Engagement Advisor (OEA) role, in a manner consistent with QIFVLS’ professional standards and code of conduct.

Outreach & Community Engagement

Build and maintain strong, culturally respectful partnerships with local communities and stakeholders.

Develop and implement community engagement strategies in collaboration with Case Management Officers (CMOs) and Community Family Advocates (CFAs).

Actively network with community organisations, men’s and women’s groups, government agencies, and community justice groups to promote QIFVLS services.

Represent QIFVLS at community events, forums, and workshops (with CDM approval), upholding organisational values and professional standards.





Community Insights & Events

Identify and respond to emerging community needs by gathering insights and translating them into meaningful actions.

Collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to co‑design practical, community‑led solutions.

Support and participate in community events that strengthen engagement and awareness of services.

About You

Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a community‑based or not‑for‑profit organisation

Relevant qualifications in Community Services , Case Management, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field; and/or possess equivalent experience in a similar role

Demonstrated ability to build strong, respectful relationships with community members, stakeholders, and service providers.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences, facilitate discussions, and deliver information in a culturally appropriate manner.

Proven time management and organisational skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage competing demands—particularly in a role involving travel and community outreach.
