Location: Sydney, NSW

Reporting To: Site Supervisor / Foreman / Project Manager

About the Role

The Leading Hand will support the site management team in delivering civil, demolition, remediation and excavation projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

The successful candidate will assist with day‑to‑day site coordination, supervision of workers and subcontractors, plant and material coordination, site safety, quality control and general project delivery.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone who can lead by example, communicate clearly with site crews, and help drive productivity while maintaining strong safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Assist the Site Supervisor, Foreman and Project Manager with daily site coordination.

Lead and direct labourers, operators and subcontractors on site.

Assist with planning and coordinating daily work activities.

Read and interpret drawings, site plans and work instructions.

Ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements.

Coordinate plant, equipment, materials and site resources.

Monitor productivity and assist with achieving daily targets.

Assist with site set‑out, levels and basic measurements where required.

Identify site issues, hazards, delays and clashes, and elevate them promptly.

Assist with toolbox talks, pre‑starts and daily site briefings.

Ensure workers and subcontractors comply with site safety requirements.

Assist with quality checks and ensure works are completed to the required standard.

Maintain a clean, organised and safe worksite.

Support the implementation of SWMS, permits and site procedures.





Assist with deliveries, access, traffic control coordination and material movements.

Communicate clearly with supervisors, subcontractors, operators and labourers.

Help maintain daily records, photos and site updates where required.

Promote a positive, productive and professional site culture.

Typical Scope of Works

The role may involve working across projects including:

Detailed excavation

Contaminated material handling

Shoring and retention works

Pavements

Kerbs and concrete works

FRP and minor structures

Services‑related civil works

Site establishment and enabling works

Required Experience

To be considered for this role, you should have:

Previous experience as a Leading Hand, Civil Leading Hand, Site Supervisor, Foreman Assistant or senior site worker.

Experience in civil construction, demolition, remediation, excavation or infrastructure works.

Ability to lead and coordinate workers and subcontractors.

Strong understanding of site safety requirements.

Ability to read and interpret drawings and site instructions.

Good communication and problem‑solving skills.

Robust attention to detail and quality.

Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.

Strong work ethic and willingness to be hands‑on when required.

Ability to identify issues early and report them to site management.

Good understanding of plant, equipment and construction sequencing.

Current White Card.

Preferred Experience





Experience with any of the following will be highly regarded:

Bulk earthworks

Demolition projects

Remediation and contaminated land works

Shoring and excavation support

Stormwater and pavement works

Working around live services

Traffic management coordination

GPS, laser levels or basic survey equipment

Excavators, loaders, rollers, dump trucks or other civil plant

Commercial, industrial or infrastructure projects

Tickets and Licences

The following will be highly regarded but are not essential for all applicants:

Excavator ticket / VOC

EWP ticket

Working at Heights

Confined Space

First Aid

Traffic Control tickets

HR or MR licence

Dogman or rigging tickets
