About the role

As Deputy Editor / Business, you are second-in-charge and the Editor’s right hand. You’ll produce, edit and prepare the content that powers our twice-weekly newsletter and daily website by sharpening copy, shaping stories and making sure every piece lands the "so what for the reader" angle. You’ll help build and manage a pool of expert contributors, keep the publishing engine running smoothly, and take the reins when the Editor can’t.

It’s a hands-on, varied role for someone who loves both the craft of editing and the buzz of building something new.

What you’ll do

- Sub-edit and produce content for the twice-weekly newsletter (Tuesday and Thursday) and the daily website refresh.
- Write and edit original articles, explainers and analysis across our core pillars which include money, investing, business, economy, work and retirement.
- Reframe business, market and economic news to make it genuinely useful to everyday readers.
- Assist with commissioning, brief and edit contributed pieces, managing turnaround, quality and house style.




- Curate and adapt licensed and wire content to keep the site fresh every day.
- Manage day-to-day production in WordPress and coordinate newsletter scheduling in the EDM platform.
- Generate or source graphs, imagery and visual elements to support content.
- Deputise for the Editor as required, taking responsibility for editions and daily output.
- Contribute to editorial planning, story ideas and the ongoing growth of the product.
- Work with the broader Solstice Media team.

About you

- Substantial experience as a journalist, editor or producer, ideally in business or finance.
- Sharp, fast and accurate in editing, with an excellent command of grammar, structure and style.
- Strong news judgement and an instinct for the reader-first angle on complex stories.
- A knack for turning finance, economics and business material into clear, engaging journalism.
- Confidence with digital publishing tools, email newsletters, basic analytics and SEO fundamentals.
- Highly organised and self-directed, able to run production independently when needed.
- Collaborative, calm under deadline pressure, and committed to independent, public-interest journalism.
- A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, economics, business or a related field is desirable, but relevant experience matters most.
