Remote Area Nurse / Midwife

Ready to use your advanced nursing or midwifery skills where they can make a meaningful difference? We are seeking experienced Remote Area Nurses and Remote Area Midwives to deliver high-quality care across remote community health settings.

This is an opportunity to work with adults, children, families and communities presenting with a broad range of health needs. You will practise with a high level of clinical autonomy while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and internal and external stakeholders.

About the role

As a Clinical Nurse or Midwife working in remote health, you will apply advanced clinical knowledge and judgement to deliver comprehensive, evidence-based and culturally safe care. You will coordinate care across shifts, support less experienced clinicians and contribute to service quality beyond direct client care.

Key responsibilities

- Provide comprehensive, secure and effective evidence-based nursing or midwifery care to support agreed health outcomes.

- Assess, plan, deliver, communicate and evaluate care, revising clinical plans when required.

- Coordinate care and provide clinical leadership across a shift.

- Act as a clinical resource, mentor and role model for colleagues, students and less experienced team members.

- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders supporting remote community health services.





- Deliver culturally safe and appropriate care, including care for Aboriginal people, families and communities.

- Contribute to clinical education, quality improvement, research, governance and other service-development activities.

- Support a positive workplace culture and comply with clinical quality, work health and safety, and organisational policies.

About you

You are an experienced and adaptable nurse or midwife who can work confidently across a broad clinical scope. You communicate clearly, build productive professional relationships and remain calm when managing complex presentations, challenging behaviours or conflict.

Essential requirements

- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia through AHPRA, or eligibility to obtain registration.

- Current active Remote Emergency Care (REC) and/or Maternity Emergency Care (MEC) certificate OR

- Minimum 5 years of experience in emergency nursing and minimum 1 year of experience in Primary health care setting.

- Well-developed knowledge, clinical skills and experience relevant to remote nursing or midwifery, including care of adult and paediatric patients.

- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical leadership, mentoring and preceptorship.

- Experience contributing to activities beyond direct care, such as education, quality assurance, research or service improvement.

- Strong communication, collaboration, conflict-resolution and stakeholder-management skills.

- A sound understanding of the social and cultural factors that influence healthcare delivery for individuals, families and communities.

- Willingness to travel regularly to remote communities.

- Current relevant emergency-management and immunisation credentials, or willingness to obtain them.

Highly desirable

- A postgraduate qualification, such as a Graduate Certificate, in a relevant clinical specialty.

- Previous experience delivering primary healthcare in remote or Aboriginal community settings.
