TheMetropolitan Community Residency Program (CRP) is a respected,competitive, and valuable training opportunity for Resident MedicalOfficers (RMOs) in Western Australia. Delivered in partnership withSilverchain, this program offers RMOs the chance to expand theirclinical capabilities within a supported and intellectuallystimulating community care setting.

This rotationis particularly suited to RMOs seeking to strengthen their clinicalindependence and decision-making skills while gaining insight intothe delivery of palliative care in a metropolitan communitysetting. This is one of the only opportunities available to RMOs toexperience community care in a metropolitan setting prior to makinga vocational decision.

ProgramOverviewEligible RMOs will completea palliative care rotation with Silverchain while remainingcontracted and salaried by their Primary Employing Health Service.The CRP term is offered by secondment and is available to RMOsemployed at:

EligibilityCriteriaApplicants must meet thefollowing requirements:

- Hold a2027 RMO position at one of the participatinghospitals
- Holdgeneral registration with the Medical Board ofAustralia
- Be anAustralian citizen or permanent resident
- Hold avalid C-class driver’s licence
- Own apersonal vehicle with comprehensive car insurance
- Hold a current National Police Clearance (issued within the last 3years)
- Provideevidence of completion of Basic Life Support training (orhigher)

- Abrief explanation of why you wish to undertake ametropolitan CRP placement
- Whatskills and experiences you will bring to the metropolitanCRP placement
- Astatement confirming that you meet the followingeligibility criteria:
- Have a validAustralian driver’s license, own personal vehicle andcomprehensive car insurance
- Hold a currentPolice Clearance
- Have completedBasic Life Support training

Successfulapplicants will be required to provide Silver Chain with additionalcredentialing information & documentation. The request willbe issued approximately 8 weeks before the commencement of the termwith all documentation due two weeks before the termbegins.

General Practice andAdditional Primary CareOpportunitiesIn addition to theMetropolitan Community Residency Program (CRP), RMOs may expressinterest in participating in The Australian Primary CarePrevocational Program (APCPP) – Metro pilot commencing in 2027.Interest in APCPP may be indicated either in addition to, orindependently of, a CRP application.

The APCPPMetro pilot will offer a limited number of short-term (10–11 week)rotations in metropolitan primary care settings, including generalpractice and Aboriginal Medical Services. Similar to the CRP,successful participants will remain employed and salaried by theirPrimary Employing Health Service and undertake the rotation onsecondment.

As this is apilot program currently under development, this constitutes anexpression of interest only. Placement locations and detailedprogram arrangements are still being finalised, and participationwill be subject to a separate selection process. RMOs selected forthe APCPP will be provided with further information as it becomesavailable.

RMOs with aninterest in primary care, community-based training, or generalpractice pathways are encouraged to indicate theirinterest.

RMOsinterested in pursuing General Practice (GP) training more broadlyare also encouraged to explore the GP Hospital Training Pathway(GPHTP), which provides access to hospital rotations aligned withGP training goals and supports progression into vocational GPtraining.
