Position Overview

The PhD scholarship is funded as part of an ARC‑funded project, "Addressing long‑term climate displacement in Australia", led by Dr Colette Mortreux of the School of Social Sciences. The project explores the lived experience and impacts of displacement linked to climate‑related disaster using primarily qualitative methods. Successful applicants will conduct their own distinct PhD project within the broader project, contributing to research, publications and future grant applications.

Candidate Requirements

- Excellent academic track record in Human Geography or a cognate discipline within the social sciences.
- Australian (or equivalent international) Honour’s or Master’s degree with a significant research component and first‑class honours (H1) awarded.
- Eligibility for the Faculty of Arts PhD program, including English‑language proficiency, as outlined on the university website.
- Applicants must be enrolled full‑time and on campus; PhD holders will not be considered.

Expected Responsibilities

- Enroll in the PhD program by 29 January 2027 (flexibility may apply).




- Conduct PhD research in line with the project objectives and produce findings for publication.
- Participate in supervisory meetings and contribute to cooperative outputs such as co‑authored papers and conference presentations.
