Metropolitan Area – Ambulance Transport Attendants (Casual)

The Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is seeking Ambulance Transport Attendants (ATA) for surge shifts in Metropolitan Melbourne, Victoria. Your duties will involve providing safe, high‑quality patient transport care for a wide range of medical conditions, ensuring comfort and care during transit.

Base rates range from $34.82 – $40.18 per hour , plus a 25 % casual loading and additional benefits.

About the Program

Patient Transport includes non‑emergency patient transport (NEPT) for Victoria and New South Wales, involving ambulance and aircraft support. Services include transport between home and hospital, hospital to hospital, and to specialist clinics.

About the Role

As an ATA, you will be responsible for the safe and courteous transportation of patients, maintaining high quality care during on‑road transport.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform patient assessment and intervention during on‑road transport.
- Provide high‑quality patient care and treatment during transport.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with patients and stakeholders.
- Assess the effectiveness of any intervention in accordance with RFDS guidelines, NEPT regulations, and scope of practice.




- Work independently and problem‑solve within established policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other team members.
- Maintain knowledge of RFDS policies, procedures, and NEPT regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

- Experience in the NEPT sector is desirable but not essential.
- Satisfactory completion of safety screening, including a current Full Driving Licence, Working with Children Check, National Police Check, and right to work in Australia.
- Possession of a valid driver’s licence and ability to drive in city and country traffic conditions.
- Availability to pick up shifts across 7 days, occasionally on short notice.
- All applicants must be or have worked as an ATA, or hold a diploma in Paramedical Science (Ambulance), Bachelor of Health Science (Paramedic), or another equivalent ambulance officer qualification recognised by RFDS or DHHS.
- Evidence of successful completion of required clinical placements, a Clinical Skills Assessment, and at least 400 hours of operational stretcher experience under supervision.
- For registered nurses: Must have AHPRA nursing registration, evidence of completed nursing graduate year,



documented work history in a hospital setting (Emergency Department, Cardiac Unit, High Dependency Unit, Intensive Care, Theatre), or 400 clinically supervised hours within another registered ambulance service.

Mandatory Vaccination Policy

- Hepatitis B – 3 doses plus serology.
- Varicella (Chicken Pox).

All applicants must undergo a driver history and demerit point check. Positions are subject to a National Police Check and a valid Working with Children Check.
