Transport Research Centre, University of Technology Sydney (UTS-TRC) is hiring: Research Associate in Geotechnical Engineering - Fixed term 2 years with possible extension of 1 further year
The UTS Transport Research Centre (UTS-TRC) is one of the global leaders in smart transportation systems – enhancing the design, performance and management of critical transportation infrastructure in contemporary complex settings. We are Australia’s leading transportation geotechnics research centre, with a worldwide reputation for fundamental and applied research.
Currently, under the leadership of Distinguished Prof Buddhima Indraratna, UTS-TRC has Australia’s leading researchers in the field of transportation geotechnics, rail infrastructure design, ground improvement, structural health monitoring and field data analytics, among other fields. The Centre has an outstanding record of research achievements currently employing nearly 20 geotechnical academics and full time research staff, and about 30 PhD students.
The Centre is supported by significant grants from the Australian Research Council and other external sources.
The Centre is seeking a high calibre candidate for a Research Associate position in a three-year geotechnical project funded by the Australian Research Council involving the Use of recycled materials to reduce track degradation during excessive cyclic and impact loads. The research will also involve large-scale laboratory testing, field monitoring and mathematic/numerical model development; hence a significant period of relevant postdoctoral experience is desirable.
The prospective candidate must have a first degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline, and a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering is essential. For instance, some specialised training in Transportation Geotechnics will be desirable.
