Responsibilities
As freedom of information officer, you will process requests for access to department documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. You will make decisions, provide advice and help deliver a fair, timely and consistent service.
Process FOI requests across a wide range of department records.
Make decisions as a delegate of the Secretary on access requests.
Provide explicit advice to staff and the public about freedom of information procedures and related matters.
Identify issues,
meet strict timeframes and help manage complex requests.
Support freedom of information projects and deliver practical training programs.
Qualifications
You must have experience interpreting legislation. Knowledge of the FOI Act 1982, or the ability to quickly build that knowledge and apply it, is essential.
Robust problem‑solving skills and the ability to apply legislation to complex situations.
Clear communication skills and the ability to explain information to different audiences.
Sound judgement, resilience and confidence to manage difficult conversations.
Good teamwork skills, adaptability and a focus on continuous improvement.
