Responsibilities
This role sits under the Safety Regulatory Compliance Operations team in our Trust and Safety organization. Safety Compliance Operations is responsible for various workflows related to regulatory compliance, law enforcement response, and emergency response.
As a Safety Compliance Specialist, you will serve as a critical line of defense in ensuring that content on the platform adheres to the complex landscape of U.S. local, state, and federal laws. Working within the USDS JV framework, you will review sensitive user‐submitted content through a legal and regulatory lens, ensuring our operations remain beyond reproach in an ever‐evolving legislative environment.
Content Compliance Review:
Execute high‐volume, high‐accuracy reviews of user‐generated content to determine compliance with specific U.S. legal mandates and safety standards.
Policy Implementation:
Interpret and apply internal safety guidelines and external legislative requirements to real‐world content scenarios.
Regulatory Documentation:
Draft explicit, concise, and legally sound responses/justifications for compliance actions taken, suitable for internal audits or regulatory inquiries.
Legislative Monitoring:
Maintain a working knowledge of emerging social media legislation (state‐level data privacy acts and child safety laws) to anticipate shifts in review criteria.
Cross‐Functional Collaboration:
Partner with Legal, Policy, and Public Relations teams to provide analytical feedback on the "ground‐truth" impact of current safety policies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Able to work Swing Shift – Tuesday – Saturday. For half the year, 3 days working 4 pm – 1 am, and 2 days working 5 pm – 1 am. The other half, 3 days working 2 pm – 11 pm and 2 days working 3 pm – 11 pm.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies,
Communications, or a related field.
Analytical Rigor: A "detective" mindset with the ability to parse nuance in content and identify the intersection between community guidelines and statutory requirements.
Communication: Exceptional writing skills with the ability to defend complex decisions in a professional, structured manner.
Speed & Precision: Proven ability to work in a fast‐paced environment where quick decision‐making is essential without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
Tech Literacy: Familiarity with social media ecosystems and a deep understanding of how digital content spreads and is moderated.
Ability to handle sensitive data in accordance with USDS JV security protocols and data sovereignty requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in content moderation, paralegal work, or regulatory compliance.
Experience working within a highly regulated workplace (e.g., Government, FinTech, or Healthcare).
Trust & Safety & Potential Hazards
Content that this role interacts with includes images, video, and text related to everyday life, but it can also include (but is not limited to) bullying, hate speech, child safety issues, depictions of harm to self and others, and harm to animals. Hence, it is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content on a daily basis.
