About the role
The Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer works as a key member of a team who foster relationships between Aboriginal parents or carers as well as the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG).
Other significant groups are the broader Aboriginal community and NSW Public schools, to support improved outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
This is a significant role where you can make an impact in the community and improve the wellbeing of students' lives.
The main responsibilities of the role are however not limited to:
Where appropriate, act as a support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students and their families
Work with students and families to achieve positive educational and culturally responsive outcomes
Foster strong connections between schools and the broader Aboriginal community regarding expectations or circumstances that may impact students' engagement in schools
Act as a liaison between local AECG's in the realisation of fulfilling the Partnership Agreement.
Assist with strengthening the knowledge, understanding and application of departmental systems and process for Aboriginal parents or carers
Be a liaison between the Aboriginal Education and Communities directorate, schools and across Government and non-Government agencies
Develop culturally responsive solutions for Aboriginal students.

About you

The ability to manage stakeholders at all levels
Strong communication and people skills
Lead by example and be an advocate for change




The ability to be culturally sensitive and display empathy in your approach when dealing with sensitive matters
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position.
Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act ****.

Hold a valid clearance to work with Children (NSW Working with Children Check)
Hold a valid NSW driver's license

On Tuesday, 11 August **** at 4:00pm, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recruitment and Advisory team will host an online Yarn Up (information session) about this role.
The session will provide a detailed overview of the recruitment process, including applying for the position and interview to build confidence in your application.
