Job Description
Step up into an Operations Manager role with real backing.
/n
You've run crews. You've kept jobs moving, customers informed, and standards up. Now you're ready to run the whole operation without giving up the field work you're good at.
/n
De Groot Roof Painting is a fourth-generation family business growing our Tasmanian operation, and we need a hands-on Operations Manager to run daily delivery across our roofing and painting work.
/n
Who this suits
/n
A supervisor, foreman or project coordinator from construction or field-based trade services, ready for a Operations Manager role. Roofing or painting experience is preferred but not essential: if you've led field crews in an adjacent trade and learn fast, we want to hear from you.
/n
You'll need:
/n
- A current driver's licence
/n
- White Card
/n
- Confidence with job-management/CRM systems (or the discipline to master ours quickly).
/n
What you get
/n
- $90,000 - $120,000 + super
/n
- Take-home company vehicle with private use (business fuel covered; private fuel is yours)
/n
- Laptop, phone, home workstation, work gear and clothing
/n
- Field + work from home: there's no office to sit in
/n
- Structured 90-day onboarding and weekly coaching with the Management Team
/n
- A genuine step up into operations management, with support built in
/n
How the week actually works
/n
Hobart-based, split between home and the field. Home is your planning and admin base; you're on site whenever jobs, crews, customers or weather need you: that mix shifts with the workload, so we don't promise fixed WFH days. Regional Tasmania travel as required.
Monday to Friday, with the occasional early start or urgent call when weather or a site issue demands it.
Flexibility works both ways.
/n
What you'll run
/n
- A close, practical team: 6-10 employees to manage.
/n
- Daily delivery: scheduling, labour allocation, progress, weather calls, quality checks
/n
- Customers: updates, callbacks, defects and touch-ups, handovers
/n
- Job costs, materials, stock, fleet and equipment
/n
- Systems: CRM/Job Management System records, notes, photos, hours and invoice evidence: kept clean and current
/n
You'll share the Tasmania sales pipeline target with our sales and admin team: site scoping, selected quotes, feasibility checks and customer handovers. Secure, profitable delivery always matters as much as winning work.
/n
Safety: enforce now, grow into full ownership
/n
From day one you hold the line on field basics: SWMS, PPE, inductions, toolbox talks, site inspections. Full WHS ownership is where the role heads, and we'll train you into it: structured development, Director/GM governance and external safety support along the way.
You don't need to be a WHS specialist to apply, but if you do have experience, that is a plus!
/n
Your first 90 days
/n
Get the operation running to a steady beat:
/n
- Set clear expectations with the crew and hold them
/n
- Close every loop: callbacks, customer commitments, open tasks
/n
- Keep CRM/Job Management records and documentation clean and current
/n
- Enforce the field safety basics
/n
- Build a predictable daily and weekly operating rhythm
