The branch has recently undergone a functional realignment to strengthen delivery capability and position the program for future priorities.

About the role A temporary opportunity is available to step into the role of Team Leader

Strategic Projects, Design and Delivery Lead within the Gwydir Reconnecting

Watercourse Country Program (RWCP). Reporting to the Senior Team Leader, this role will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for progressing planning assessments, procurement, construction and implementation activities of priority physical works in the Gwydir catchment. The role oversees planning approvals, procurement, construction and implementation activities, working closely with technical specialists,

consultants, contractors and stakeholders to manage project risks, resolve complex issues and maintain delivery momentum. A key focus of the role is maintaining delivery momentum while navigating landholder requirements,

regulatory approvals and construction constraints. This is a unique opportunity to join a high-profile program delivering key infrastructure projects under the Constraints Relaxation Implementation Roadmap and the Northern Basin Toolkit, contributing to environmental water management outcomes across the northern Murray–Darling Basin.

Key responsibilities: The Team Leader will:

Lead and mentor a team of planners and project managers delivering water infrastructure works.





Oversee planning approvals, procurement and construction activities.

Manage contractors, consultants and delivery partners to achieve program milestones and outcomes.

Build and maintain effective relationships with landholders, government agencies and other key stakeholders.

Manage project risks, budgets and schedules to support successful delivery of on-ground outcomes.

About You You will bring:

Demonstrated experience of delivering infrastructure, construction or complex capital works projects.

Sound understanding of civil engineering issues and the ability to provide practical solutions.

Experience managing projects through design, planning approvals, procurement and construction.

Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills.

Demonstrated experience leading teams, including building capability and supporting performance.

Essential Requirements Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as environmental/water/civil engineering, and/or equivalent experience.
