Remuneration: $123,138 - $146,228 pa Level B / $150,841 - $173,931 pa Level C (plus 17% employer superannuation)
The Opportunity
Join the School of Mathematics as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computational and Applied Mathematics and deliver high-quality teaching and curriculum development while inspiring the next generation of mathematicians. In this role you will also conduct cutting‑edge research in computational and applied mathematics, including optimisation, scientific machine learning, AI for science, numerical mathematics, inverse problems and scientific computing.
The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in the design, analysis, and/or application of mathematical and computational methods to scientific and engineering problems arising in areas such as climate science, physics, and the life sciences. Appointment will be at Level B or Level C, commensurate with experience. Candidates at Level C will also play a major leadership role in teaching, research and departmental activities.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computational and Applied Mathematics.
- Develop and update curricula across the School of Mathematics.
- Supervise and mentor students, including PhD and master’s candidates.
- Lead research projects in optimisation, scientific machine learning, AI for science, numerical mathematics, inverse problems and scientific computing.
- Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
- Contribute to departmental and university service activities.
Qualifications
- PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline with a strong background in computational or applied mathematics.
- Demonstrated research record in computational and applied mathematics, with publication experience and evidence of securing research funding.
- Strong teaching experience or commitment to develop teaching excellence.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
- Leadership experience is an asset for Level C appointments.
