About the role

We are seeking an experienced casual Disability Support Worker to provide 1:1 community access support to a man in his early 60s living with quadriplegia. This is a rewarding role focused on helping him get out into the community, attend appointments, and enjoy activities such as social outings and watching the horse racing.

He communicates without speech, using eye movements, gestures and a yes/no board, and connects well with workers who take the time to engage with him directly. Shifts are around 6 hours per day depending on avabialbity.

Essential requirements
Hands-on experience and confidence with tracheostomy care, including suctioning and inner cannula management
Manual handling, hoist transfers and wheelchair support experience
Experience supporting a person who is non-verbal
Experience supporting a person with high physical support needs
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
Current First Aid and CPR
NSW Driver Licence

Tracheostomy competency is a firm requirement, as it is needed to support him safely in the community.

Language

The person we support has specifically requested a worker who speaks Tagalog or Filipino, as this is the language he connects with most comfortably. For this reason we are prioritising Filipino-speaking applicants for this role.

Highly regarded
Access to a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, or willingness to work with accessible transport arrangements
PEG awareness
Experience with pressure care

About you

You are patient, reliable and genuinely interested in the people you support. You can read how someone is going and pace the day around them, as he fatigues fairly quickly. You show up when you say you will and communicate well with the household team.

To apply

Click Apply and submit your resume along with a short note about your tracheostomy and community access experience. Applicants who speak Tagalog or Filipino are encouraged to mention this in their application.
