We are seeking a tax accountant, on a part-time or full-time basis, with a minimum of 5 years Australian tax experience, who enjoys working on complex tax matters and providing practical, high-quality advice to clients.

This role is well suited to someone confident handling advanced tax issues, who requires a versatile work schedule, work hours, and the ability to work remotely or from the office (as desired).

Andrew Thomas Accounting is a growing boutique accounting firm, with operations in both Brisbane and Melbourne. Our clients, who are generally SMEs, span a variety of industries such as building and construction, property development, entertainers, talent and marketing agencies, and medical professionals.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and review complex company, trust, and individual income tax returns
- Prepare and review financial statements
- Assist with advanced tax advisory matters, including:



DIV7A loan arrangements, trust distribution planning, franked dividend strategies, CGT events and small business concessions, and SMSF compliance.
- Analyse financial statements, balance sheets, and profit & loss reports to identify tax risks and planning opportunities
- Provide technical input and guidance to junior team members when required
- Liaise directly with clients to clarify information and explain tax outcomes
- Correspond with the ATO regarding assessments, objections, and technical matters
- Prepare and oversee BAS, IAS, and ongoing compliance obligations
- Conduct Xero file reviews and clean-ups to ensure accuracy and integrity of client records
- Experience with Xero tax
- Experience working with complex structures and tax planning matters
- Experience with Xero Practice Manager (XPM)
- Experience using Active Workpapers
- Experience with FYI Docs or similar document management systems
