Temporary Full-Time, up to 30 January 2028 (Multiple Positions) About the Role: An exciting opportunity is presented to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as a Medical Practitioner

- General Surgery within the Division of Surgical Specialties and Anaesthetics.

The NALHN General Surgery Service Registrars will be placed across 4 units

- ASU, Modbury

General Surgery, Port Pirie Regional Health Service and Alice Springs Hospital. The registrars will be offered a combination of time on 2 of these units throughout the year offering a broad exposure to emergency and elective general surgery

- preferences will be asked then allocated based on suitability

This role has been designed to prepare suitable candidates for application to general surgery training through exposure to a high volume of common general surgery presentations and operations Selected candidates will be expected to participate in research and quality improvement whilst employed in the role as well as undertaking other courses and appropriate activities to further their surgical career goals. Opportunities for teaching opportunities, research publications and higher degrees can be discussed and will be supported. Whilst on the

General Surgery unit the registrar will be responsible for supporting their senior registrar in the day to day management of both elective and emergency inpatients, interacting with allied health, supervising junior doctors, assisting in theatres and operating under direct supervision Whilst on ASU the registrar is responsible, under the supervision of the rostered general surgical registrar, fellow and consultant for the assessment and initial management of acute surgical patients referred by the emergency department or general practitioners On ASU registrars work a week on-off roster to provide 7 day a week continuous cover to ED and to enable the 4 hour rule of admission to function. When visiting Port Pirie Regional Health Service you will be responsible for low acuity day surgery, outpatients, and limited scope emergency work.





Candidates rotating to Alice Springs Hospital, as a General Surgery registrar, will contribute to the delivery of elective and emergency general surgery under supervision by senior registrars and consultants, whilst experiencing the unique opportunities that Alice Springs Hospital has to offer. The peri-operative work up, booking of cases and timely communication to senior staff is a key responsibility in this role Monthly dedicated ASU Registrar teaching is offered by fellows and consultants.

To be eligible for this position, you must [minimum qualification requirements from Role Description] As per the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2025, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12 month allocation as Medical Practitioner will be determined in line with your training and SA Health's requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills and capabilities.

To be eligible for this position, you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration The Total Indicative Remuneration figure is calculated taking into account base salary, leave loading and superannuation as well as managerial allowances, professional development or any other allowances where appropriate.
