Senior Security Engineer – AI Security & Threat Exposure

Sydney | Permanent | Predominantly Onsite

As AI rapidly changes the cybersecurity landscape, organisations need security engineers who can think beyond traditional vulnerability management.

We're partnering with a leading enterprise organisation seeking a Senior Security Engineer to help identify, assess and reduce security exposure across complex technology environments. This is a hands‑on technical role focused on understanding how contemporary attack techniques including AI‑assisted threats can exploit weaknesses across applications, APIs, cloud platforms, identity environments and legacy systems.

This is not a GRC or compliance position, and it's not a traditional penetration testing role. You'll work closely with engineering teams to understand real‑world attack paths and implement practical remediation strategies.

The Role

You'll be responsible for:

- Identifying and assessing vulnerabilities across enterprise applications, APIs, cloud infrastructure and legacy platforms.
- Understanding how AI‑enabled tools are changing the speed and sophistication of cyber attacks.
- Evaluating application security, API security, identity controls and privileged access risks.
- Performing hands‑on security assessments beyond automated vulnerability scanning.
- Assessing cloud security controls and platform security posture.
- Working directly with engineering teams to prioritise and remediate security risks.
- Supporting improvements across monitoring, detection and incident response.
- Translating technical findings into meaningful business risk.
- Contributing to threat modelling,



abuse‑case analysis and AI‑assisted attack scenarios.

What We're Looking For

You’ll ideally bring experience across several of the following:

- Security Engineering
- Application Security (AppSec)
- Platform Security
- Vulnerability Assessment
- Offensive Security
- Identity & Access Management
- API Security

You'll also have:

- Strong hands‑on experience identifying and remediating vulnerabilities in complex enterprise environments.
- A solid understanding of how attackers identify and exploit security weaknesses.
- Experience working alongside engineering teams to improve security outcomes.
- Knowledge of cloud security and modern platform controls.
- Experience within highly regulated or security‑sensitive environments.

Highly Regarded

- Banking or Financial Services experience.
- Exposure to AI security or emerging AI‑enabled attack techniques.
- Experience assessing how generative AI can accelerate reconnaissance, vulnerability discovery or exploitation.
- Background in vulnerability research, offensive security or platform security.
- Experience securing legacy technology while supporting modernisation initiatives.
