About The Role

The role of the First Nations Advanced Health Worker – Mental Health is to deliver high level cultural advice and professional and culturally specific support to First Nations peoples accessing the mental health service, including their family, carers, and social/cultural support networks.

About You

- High level interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills and ability to develop effective partnerships within the Health Service and external stakeholders.




- An understanding of the social determinants of health affecting First Nations peoples.
- The ability to provide effective cultural support to First Nations peoples accessing community mental health services.
- Ability to support multidisciplinary teams to improve their understanding of the Social, Emotional and Well‑Being needs of First Nations consumers.
- The appropriate clinical skills for the delivery of evidence‑based health assessments, health promotion, education and illness prevention activities and primary health care services to First Nations peoples.

Mandatory Requirements

- Under s25 of the Anti‑Discrimination Act of 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
- Vaccinated against, and remain vaccinated against, certain vaccine preventable diseases (VPD) as outlined in the Health Employment Directive NO. 01/16.
