MULTI-TRADE OPERATIONS MANAGER-STRATA & COMMERCIAL MAINTENANCE
Malaga location | Perth metropolitan area
Trade background essential
Monday to Friday – no weekend or on-call work required
One-Multi is a well-established multi-trade company providing integrated maintenance and asset-management services throughout Western Australia.
Our core business is fast-paced strata and commercial maintenance across existing buildings. Our plumbers and electricians generally attend several different jobs each day throughout the Perth metropolitan area.
We are seeking an experienced Multi-Trade Operations Manager with a practical trade background to manage our field team, support our administration team and help drive the continued growth of the business.
This Is Not a Construction Management Role
Strata and commercial maintenance operates very differently from construction or long-term project work.
Our work involves multiple scheduled and reactive jobs each day, changing priorities, technical investigations, occupied properties and ongoing communication with strata managers, building managers, residents and commercial clients.
The successful applicant must understand this pace or have experience in a similar maintenance, facilities, trade-services or reactive-work environment.
You will need to think outside the box, make practical decisions and take ownership of jobs from the initial attendance through to close-out, quotation and completion.
Initial Field-Based Training
Although this will ultimately be a predominantly office-based role, the successful applicant must first understand how One-Multi operates in the field.
For approximately the first six to eight weeks, you will spend a significant amount of time on the road with our plumbers, electricians and other field team members.
This initial training period will allow you to learn:
- The types of properties and clients we service.
- How our technicians manage several jobs each day.
- Our investigation, repair and reporting processes.
- The standard of workmanship and customer service expected.
- How technicians record findings, photographs and recommendations.
- Our quotation, scheduling and job-management systems.
- The practical challenges our field staff encounter.
- The expectations of strata managers, building managers and commercial clients.
You will not be able to manage the operation effectively from the office without first learning how the work is delivered in the field.
Following this training period, the role will become mostly office based, with site attendance required for complex investigations,
staff support, quality control and client meetings.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Director, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of plumbing, electrical and general maintenance services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing and supporting plumbers, electricians and other field staff.
- Reviewing technician notes, photographs and recommendations.
- Closing out completed jobs accurately and promptly.
- Preparing quotations and detailed scopes of work.
- Providing technical guidance and practical support to field staff.
- Assisting technicians with complex fault finding and investigations.
- Ensuring jobs are properly documented and ready for invoicing.
- Supporting the administration team with technical queries and job requirements.
- Reviewing and adjusting daily schedules when priorities or site conditions change.
- Helping coordinate scheduled, reactive and urgent maintenance works.
- Preparing and ordering materials, equipment and access requirements for upcoming jobs.
- Confirming technicians have the correct information and equipment before attending.
- Liaising with strata managers, building managers, clients, residents and suppliers.
- Monitoring job progress, labour allowances, productivity and workmanship.
- Identifying further works and ensuring quotations are issued promptly.
- Conducting site inspections when required.
- Resolving operational issues before they affect clients or productivity.
- Improving systems and communication between the office and field teams.
- Identifying opportunities to grow existing client relationships and develop recent services.
- Working closely with the Director to support the continued growth of One-Multi.
About You
We are looking for someone who is experienced, practical, accountable and genuinely interested in helping grow the business.
You will need:
- A qualified trade background, preferably in plumbing, electrical, building services or a related technical field.
- Experience managing multiple trades, technicians or subcontractors.
- Experience within strata maintenance, commercial maintenance,
facilities management or a similar fast-paced service environment.
- Strong technical understanding and practical problem-solving skills.
- The ability to manage several jobs and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Experience preparing scopes, estimates or quotations.
- Strong written skills for reviewing reports and preparing professional client documentation.
- Confidence providing direction and technical support to experienced tradespeople.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to make decisions and take ownership without constant supervision.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- A practical, hands-on and solutions-focused approach.
- Confidence using job-management and business systems.
- A current unrestricted WA driver’s licence.
You do not need to be qualified in every trade. However, you must have the technical understanding, management experience and judgment required to coordinate plumbers, electricians and other maintenance personnel effectively.
The Person We Are Looking For
This role will suit someone who:
- Thinks beyond the immediate task and looks for the best overall solution.
- Remains calm when schedules and priorities change.
- Understands the urgency and client expectations involved in strata maintenance.
- Can balance technical, operational and administrative responsibilities.
- Supports staff while also holding them accountable.
- Is comfortable making decisions and solving unusual problems.
- Takes pride in completing jobs properly from beginning to end.
- Is commercially aware and understands labour, materials and job profitability.
- Is dedicated to improving systems and growing the business.
- Wants to become a trusted and long-term member of the One-Multi leadership team.
What You’ll Receive
- Competitive annual salary package.
- Company vehicle and fuel card.
- Permanent full-time employment.
- Monday-to-Friday working hours.
- No weekend work.
- No on-call roster.
- Malaga office location.
- Perth metropolitan work.
- A mixture of office and site-based responsibilities.
- Direct access to the company’s decision-makers.
- Genuine autonomy and responsibility.
- The opportunity to shape operational systems and business growth.
- A long-term leadership opportunity within an established multi-trade company.
