The Council values collaboration, integrity, and continual improvement in all operational areas.Role Description This full-time, on-site Water and Sewerage Treatment Plant Operator role is based in Goondiwindi, QLD.
The operator will monitor and control water and sewerage treatment processes, ensuring compliant and efficient plant operations in line with regulatory and safety standards.
Daily tasks include operating machinery and equipment, performing routine inspections, collecting and testing water samples, and recording operational data for quality and compliance reporting.
The role involves undertaking preventative and corrective maintenance on plant and associated infrastructure, identifying faults, and assisting with repairs to minimize downtime.




The operator will also follow safe work procedures, participate in emergency response as required, support continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborate with other Council staff to maintain reliable service delivery.QualificationsDemonstrated skills in plant operations, including water and sewerage treatment plant operation and process monitoring.Experience with quality control activities such as sampling, testing, data recording, and adherence to environmental and regulatory standards.Competence in machine operation and maintenance, including routine servicing, basic troubleshooting, and safe use of tools and equipment.Relevant qualifications or training in water operations, wastewater treatment, or a related engineering or trade discipline.Strong commitment to workplace health and safety, environmental stewardship, and risk management.Good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow procedures and technical instructions accurately.Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work rostered arrangements as required.Current driver's license and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions; experience in local government or utilities is an advantage.
