Step up as a Crew Leader, where you'll be out in the field leading a hands‐on team working to protect Townsville from invasive Yellow Crazy Ants.
You'll supervise and support a crew of Ecology Technicians, making sure the work gets done safely, on time, and to a high standard.
Your day‐to‐day will include running ant surveys, monitoring, and treatment across all kinds of terrain which includes bushland, farmland, steep country, residential yards, roadsides, parks, and industrial areas.
You'll work with locals to access their properties, fill out job sheets and reports, and keep track of the crew's progress.
You'll coach your team, help build their skills, and give practical advice to keep the job moving.
Confidence working with gear like backpack blowers, GPS units, radios, ant traps, seed spreaders, and tablets is significant.
If you're a strong communicator, enjoy leading a team, and don't mind getting your hands dirty while helping protect our local environment, this could be the role for you.
Qualifications and Experience
Ideally you will have:
Mandatory
Experience in applying Workplace Health and Safety in an operational environment, including prestart inspections and site audits.
Experience operating computerised equipment (e.g. data loggers, GPS, etc.) including the use of MS Office Suite and business systems.
Current Manual "C" Class license
Construction Industry White Card ****** QLD)
Townsville City Council Authorised Person and Local Government Worker accreditation, or ability to obtain
Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to achieve effective solutions to challenges and adapting environments.
Desirable
Certificate III Conservation and Land Management or similar qualification and experience in the supervision and leadership of staff.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to operate and lead others safely in remote environments.
4WD training highly regarded.
Ability to safely operate and lead others in a range of light plant items, machinery and equipment associated with Yellow Crazy Ant management works.
Effective organisational skills and ability to produce effective and efficient on-ground outcomes for identification, monitoring and management of Yellow Crazy Ants.
