About The Role
We are currently looking for confident and enthusiastic lawyers in the early stages of their legal careers to join our high‑performing Public Law – Governance, Procurement and Probity team in our Canberra office.
This is a outstanding opportunity to join a team-oriented team working with (primarily Commonwealth) government departments and agencies to provide pragmatic, solutions‑focused advice across a variety of major procurements and grants projects. You will be involved in significant and high‑profile projects, and advise on complex and often sensitive matters with real‑world impact. Things are never dull in this team!
About You
- Admitted to legal practice and able to obtain a government security clearance.
- Genuine interest in current affairs and the public sector, a passion for helping clients make lawful and ethical decisions regarding commitments of public money, and a good track record of working collaboratively and contributing to a team environment.
- Brings a sense of curiosity and openness to learning new skills, and is able to see the big picture.
- Clear and confident communicator with strong attention to detail and sound technical drafting and statutory interpretation skills.
- Has, or has the ability to obtain quickly, a strong understanding of probity and integrity in the public sector, and governance principles applicable to procurement, grants and other spending processes.
- Has general public sector and/or legal experience (preferably in one or more of procurement and grants, commercial law, statutory interpretation and/or administrative law decision‑making, audit, risk and investigations).
- Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.
- Thrives in a rapid‑paced environment, working on a variety of complex and interesting projects at any one time.
