Position Title: Gardener / Grounds Maintenance Worker (Aged Care – Home Care)

Reports to: Care Coordinator / Operations Manager

Location: Client Homes (Community-Based)

Position Summary

The Gardener provides safe, reliable, and respectful gardening and basic outdoor maintenance services to aged care clients living in their own homes. The role supports clients to remain living independently in a protected, tidy, and accessible environment while complying with Aged Care Quality Standards, workplace health and safety requirements, and organisational policies.

Key Responsibilities Gardening & Grounds Maintenance

- Lawn mowing, edging, and trimming
- Pruning shrubs, hedges, and small trees (within scope)
- Weeding garden beds and paved areas
- Removal of green waste (as per agreement)
- Basic garden clean-ups to reduce trip and fire hazards
- Cleaning gutters
- High pressure washing

Safety & Risk Management

- Identify and report hazards (uneven paths, overgrown areas, trip risks)
- Use tools and equipment safely and appropriately
- Follow WHS procedures and manual handling guidelines
- Maintain a clean and safe work area during and after services

Client Interaction

- Provide respectful, courteous, and professional service
- Respect client privacy, dignity, and property




- Communicate clearly with clients and carers regarding services delivered
- Work within agreed care plans and service scopes

Documentation & Compliance

- Complete service records or job notes as required
- Comply with Aged Care Quality Standards and Charter of Aged Care Rights
- Follow infection control and biosecurity requirements where applicable

Essential Requirements

- Experience in gardening or grounds maintenance
- Ability to safely operate gardening equipment
- Understanding of working safely in client homes
- Current National Police Check
- Valid driver’s licence

Desirable Skills & Experience

- Experience working with older clients or in home care services
- Knowledge of aged care funding programs (HCP, CHSP, Support at Home)
- Basic understanding of home safety and fall prevention
- Good communication and time management skills
