We are seeking an experienced, compassionate, and reliable female support worker to provide high-quality psychosocial disability support to a female participant living with complex mental health needs.
The participant lives with Schizophrenia (Paranoid Type) and experiences additional diagnosed mental health conditions including Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder (Borderline Personality Disorder), Depression and Asthma, with self-reported diagnoses of PTSD, OCD, Major Depressive Disorder and Insomnia.
Due to the complexity of her presentation, the successful applicant must be confident supporting individuals experiencing:
- Complex psychosocial disability
- Paranoia and psychotic symptoms
- Emotional dysregulation
- Trauma-related presentations
- Anxiety and depression
- Social isolation
- Fluctuating mental health and capacity
- Crisis prevention and de-escalation
The participant has specifically requested a female support worker to ensure she feels safe and comfortable while receiving personal supports.
About the Role
The successful support worker will assist the participant to maintain independence, build capacity and safely engage in everyday life.
Duties include:
- Providing psychosocial recovery-oriented support
- Assisting with daily living and personal routines
- Meal planning and meal preparation
- Household cleaning and laundry
- Medication prompting and collection (where appropriate)
- Community access and transport
- Grocery shopping and essential errands
- Supporting attendance at medical, allied health and community appointments
- Assisting with budgeting, bills and daily organisation
- Supporting applications for housing and accommodation
- Encouraging participation in social and recreational activities
- Assisting with routine planning and maintaining structure
- Maintaining accurate progress notes and incident reporting
- Working collaboratively with Support Coordinators and allied health professionals
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
- ✔ Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex mental health conditions
- ✔ Previous experience working in Supported Independent Living (SIL) or high-intensity psychosocial disability supports
- ✔ Strong understanding of trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice
- ✔ Current ABN
- ✔ Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- ✔ Current National Police Check
- ✔ Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
- ✔ Current Driver's Licence and reliable insured vehicle
- ✔ Current Comprehensive Car Insurance
- ✔ Current NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
- ✔ Completion of all relevant NDIS Worker Training Modules
- ✔ Excellent written communication and documentation skills
- ✔ Ability to work independently while maintaining professional boundaries
Highly Desirable
- Mental Health First Aid
- Certificate IV in Mental Health
- Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support
- Diploma of Mental Health
- Experience supporting participants with schizophrenia and personality disorders
- Experience with Positive Behaviour Support strategies
- Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and crisis intervention
- Medication competency (where applicable)

Important Information
This role requires supporting a participant whose presentation can fluctuate due to the nature of her psychosocial disability. Applicants must be comfortable working within established support plans, recognising early signs of deterioration, and responding appropriately while maintaining a calm, person-centred approach.
As the participant has specifically requested female supports, applications are invited from female support workers only. This requirement is made in accordance with the participant's preferences and support needs.
