About the Position

The Family Practitioner role sits within the Stronger Families Strong Communities program and delivers early intervention, trauma‑informed and culturally responsive services to families, children and communities. The role supports child wellbeing and safety while strengthening family relationships, preservation and connection to culture and community.

As a Family Practitioner, your responsibilities will include:

- Providing case management and casework services to individuals and families
- Delivering culturally appropriate, trauma‑informed responses with a strong focus on child safety
- Advocating for clients and liaising with internal and external stakeholders
- Facilitating parenting education programs and targeted family supports
- Planning and delivering community education and engagement activities
- Maintaining accurate case notes, data collection and reporting
- Contributing to a positive, team-oriented and culturally respectful team environment

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

- A bachelor degree in Social Work *, Psychology, Counselling, or Occupational Therapy, with eligibility for relevant professional membership or registration (e.g. AASW, Psychology Board of Australia, PACFA, AHPRA)
- Experience in domestic, family and sexual violence and/or child protection settings
- A sound understanding of trauma‑informed and trauma‑responsive practice
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities
- Strong communication skills, including written case notes, reports and group facilitation
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Solid time management, self‑management and IT skills

* Applicants studying Bachelor of Social Work who can demonstrate successful completion of their 3rd year field placement in a client-facing role are eligible to apply and if successful will be offered Level 3.



Upon providing evidence of successfully completing their qualification they will be eligible for Level 4.

Requirements of the role:

- Hold (or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check *
- Hold (or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (Police Check) *
- Hold a current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)

* Preferred candidates will be supported through these processes
