The department manages a broad range of presentations across all areas of emergency medicine and provides care to a complex and diverse patient population. St Vincent’s is a designated trauma centre and provides advanced tertiary services including ECMO, offering excellent exposure to acute and complex emergency medicine.
SRMOs are supported by a comprehensive education program, with opportunities to contribute to teaching and become involved in coordinating the Emergency Department junior medical officer teaching program. SRMOs who are ACEM members are invited to attend departmental emergency teaching sessions, including preparation for the ACEM Primary Examination.
The EPIC course is delivered monthly and is designed to prepare SRMOs for future critical care training.

There are also opportunities for secondment, including a Northern Territory placement in Katherine for those seeking broader critical care and rural emergency medicine experience. This placement offers valuable exposure to a unique and diverse clinical setting.
The department has a strong focus on education, supervision and wellbeing. SRMOs work within a supportive and collegial team environment, with access to mentoring and opportunities for teaching, simulation and clinical development.
