Individual Learning Teacher (Y7-12)

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

- The role of the Individual Learning Teacher is focused on supporting the needs of a diverse range of

students who, may require a personalised approach to their learning. Students with diverse needs are

incorporated within a multi-tiered system for support framework, which is developed within the whole

school context and reflects Barker’s strategic teaching and learning priorities.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Identification, Assessment and Data-Informed Decision Making

- Use a range of evidence sources, including standardised assessments, curriculum-based measures,

classroom observations, school data, student history and reports from internal and external
professionals, to identify students requiring additional support.

- Contribute to school-based screening, referral and review processes to support early identification of

students requiring adjustments within a multi-tiered system of support.
- Interpret assessment information to determine student strengths, functional impact, barriers to

learning and appropriate next steps for intervention, adjustment and monitoring.
- Maintain accurate records of student needs, interventions, adjustments and progress to inform

planning, review, communication and reporting requirements.

Strengthening Inclusive Classroom Practice

- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to plan, implement and evaluate high-quality

differentiated teaching, curriculum access and reasonable adjustments for students with diverse
learning needs.

- Support teachers to use evidence-informed strategies that strengthen literacy, numeracy, executive

functioning, engagement, wellbeing and access to learning within the mainstream classroom.
- Provide advice, modelling, co-planning, co-teaching and reflective feedback to build teacher

confidence and consistency in inclusive practice across subjects and year levels.
- Assist staff to understand and implement student adjustments, learning plan recommendations and

assessment access arrangements in a consistent and timely manner.
- Teach or co-teach Year 7 or 8 Mathematics or English classes, Years 7–10 Additional Studies

classes, Senior Study sessions or other targeted learning programs as required.

Provide Targeted and Intensive Intervention

- Plan, deliver,



monitor and review targeted interventions for students who require support beyond

universal classroom adjustments, including small-group and individual instruction where appropriate.
- Provide direct and timely specialist support for students with identified academic, functional, social-

emotional, behavioural or access needs, while maintaining a focus on participation in inclusive
classroom settings.

- Collaboratively plan, implement, monitor and evaluate Individual Learning Centre programs and

initiatives, including Additional Studies, Focus On, Senior Study Sessions and other evidence-
informed supports.

- Contribute to planning, coordination, monitoring and review of initiatives that support high potential

students and students requiring extension, enrichment or personalised pathways.

Individual Learning Centre

Collaboration, Consultation and Case Coordination

- Work as an active member of the Individual Learning Centre and relevant school teams to

coordinate support for students with disability, learning difficulties, additional needs, EAL/D, high
potential or other diverse learning profiles.

- Collaborate with classroom teachers, Heads of Department, Year Coordinators, School Counsellors,

allied health professionals, parents and carers to develop shared understanding of student needs
and agreed support strategies.

- Facilitate consultation processes that include student and parent/carer voice, promote partnership

and support informed decision-making about adjustments, interventions and learning goals.

Student Learning Plans, Adjustments and Exam Provisions

- Develop, implement and review Individual Learning Plans to support the implementation, and review

of reasonable adjustments for learning, assessment and participation in accordance with school
processes and relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.

- Identify, implement and evaluate appropriate school-based assessment and examination provisions

for students in Years 7–12.




- Prepare and support student applications for NESA Exam Provisions for Years 10–12 in accordance

with current guidelines and school procedures.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, current, accessible to relevant staff and used to inform consistent

practice across learning environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

- Relevant academic teaching qualifications and NESA qualifications

- Relevant teaching experience
