HEAD OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATIONPosition DetailsMater Dei College is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable teacher to join us on a full-time, ongoing basis as the Head of Religious Education. This is an exciting and significant leadership opportunity for a passionate teacher who is committed to fostering faith formation, student engagement, and excellence in Religious Education within a contemporary Catholic school context. The Head of Religious Education and is a key member of the College Leadership and Academic Leadership Team, contributing to whole-school planning and strategic direction.
The Head of Religious Education will be responsible for a variety of tasks that is inclusive of, but not limited to:
- Leading the development, implementation, and review of the Religious Education curriculum, including programs and course structures in alignment with the Western Australian Curriculum.
- Overseeing the development, implementation, monitoring and/or writing of student assessments, ensuring compliance with College and SCSA policies and procedures.
- Managing budgets, resources, and facilities within the Learning
Area.
- Actively contribute to College-wide planning and strategic direction as a member of the Leadership Team, with particular focus on faith leadership and Catholic identity.
Selection CriteriaThe successful applicant will an enthusiastic and innovative educator who demonstrates a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College. You will:
- Have the ability to teach across all year levels (Years 7–12).
- Demonstrate experience and strong knowledge of Religious Education, Catholic theology, scripture, Church teachings and contemporary pedagogical practices.
- Show strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to mentor and collaborate with colleagues.
- Be dedicated to ongoing professional growth and staying informed of current developments in Religious Education.
- Actively support and contribute to the co-curricular life of the College.
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably in Religious Education.
- Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) or equivalentTerms of Employment
- Hold a current registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
- Hold a current
Working with Children Check (WWC).
- Hold, or be working towards completion of, Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School, Accreditation to Teach Religious Education or Accreditation for Leadership in Catholic Schools.
- Annually complete Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training and any other CEWA mandatory training.
Highly Desirable
- Knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and WACE courses.
- An understanding of current educational perspectives.
- Experience working with high school students.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking abilities.
