About BondAdviser
BondAdviser is Australia’s leading independent platform for debt capital markets. We provide credit research, ratings, data, workflows and portfolio solutions to institutions, wealth platforms, advisers and fund managers. Our knowledge crosses public and private credit, rated and unrated. Organised across three key pillars, our business is a specialist provider of financial services including:
- Research & Ratings: Independent credit research, issuer ratings and fund ratings across the full Australian income spectrum, from major banks and insurers to unlisted issuers and alternative credit funds
- Investment Solutions: Consulting, managed portfolios and bespoke mandates, including our multi-award-winning managed accounts
- WealthTech: The proprietary data and technology platform that connects our research, analytics and pricing to client workflows
We are an enabler of services and open architecture by design, with no execution, custody or clearing.
Over the next five years we are scaling our fund ratings platform, deepening private markets coverage, expanding our managed account and direct investment products, and building AI-assisted research infrastructure. This role is designed for an analyst who wants to grow with that platform.
The Role
As an Analyst you will support the Investment and Research teams in the review and analysis of investment opportunities across bonds, loans, private credit and hybrids. You will add value to BondAdviser’s services by supporting the team in developing investment recommendations across a diverse range of issuers, products and credit fundamentals, and by contributing to our expanding fund ratings and private markets coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyse credit investment opportunities across public and private markets, including financial modelling,
forecasting, relative value and liquidity analysis.
- Assess bond investments by interpreting risk-reward parameters, legal and capital structures, covenants and market drivers of performance.
- Perform stress testing and scenario analysis across credit portfolios.
- Support investment and operational due diligence on managed funds, with a focus on private credit and commercial real estate debt, and contribute to ongoing surveillance of private credit exposures.
- Assist in preparing fund research reports and ratings materials as our fund coverage platform scales.
- Contribute to portfolio strategy; generate investment ideas and identify opportunities for portfolios and managed account mandates.
- Write for periodic publications and produce research on individual corporates, industries and macroeconomic trends.
- Prepare client presentations and respond to ad hoc requests from senior team members and external clients.
- Work with our analytics and data platforms, including AI-assisted research tooling, to automate analysis, maintain datasets and improve research workflows.
Skills and Experience
- Excellent results from a leading university. Tertiary qualifications in Commerce/Economics, Law or Engineering/Mathematics related degrees.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience within an investment bank, fund manager, research house or financial services firm is essential.
- Experience across both funds management and credit research is preferred.
- A strong interest in fixed income and credit; prior exposure to private credit, leveraged finance or structured transactions is highly regarded.
- A quantitative background and strong analytical skills coupled with attention to detail.
- Strong financial modelling and valuation skills; understanding of portfolio management and security valuation.
- Working knowledge of Ruby, Python and/or SQL, or a demonstrated aptitude and willingness to develop it, is highly regarded.
- Comfort using modern AI tools in an analytical workflow, with sound judgement about their limitations.
- Experience conducting research and due diligence.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to multi-task and work to deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.
- Self-motivated with respect to both managing workload and professional development; CFA program participation viewed favourably.
- Passion for investing, especially in global credit markets.
- Fluency in business-level spoken and written English is essential.
- A professional attitude and desire to exceed client expectations, with outstanding interpersonal skills to contribute to a specialised team workplace.
- Familiarity with Bloomberg is desirable; proficiency in Microsoft Office tools is expected.
Why This Role
You will join a small team where analysts get direct exposure to issuers, fund managers, clients and portfolio decisions from day one. As the business scales its fund ratings platform, private markets coverage and analytics capability, you will have the opportunity to build genuine breadth across public credit, private credit and funds research that is difficult to replicate at larger institutions.
