Overview

The South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) is a leading provider of hospital and community‑based public health care. SMHS is recruiting Consultant Physicians to join the Home Hospital team, delivering specialist inpatient care to patients in their homes.

Roles & Responsibilities

- Lead a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive specialist inpatient care in patients’ homes.
- Promote patient safety and quality of care.
- Provide leadership, orientation, training, supervision and education to doctors‑in‑training, Medical Practitioners and other health workers.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director of Community Services, Head of Department Home Hospital and other consultants to meet national, state and SMHS performance standards.
- Work within the scope of clinical practice defined by the SMHS Area Medical Credentialing Committee.
- Cover an on‑call roster on a rotational basis, including recall over weekends.
- Present at the Home Hospital bases—Fiona Stanley Hospital, Rockingham General Hospital and Peel Health Campus—where required.

Qualifications & Requirements





- Consultant level medical qualification with dual training or formal generalist qualification (e.g., Generalist, Geriatrics, Infectious Diseases, Cardiology, Endocrine, Renal, or Emergency Department).
- Valid Australian work rights; visa holders, Australian citizens, and permanent residents eligible.
- Minimum commitment of 0.25 FTE; roles available full‑time, part‑time or sessional.
- Ability to travel between sites and conduct occasional home visits in a fleet vehicle.
- Willingness to undertake mandatory criminal record screening, integrity check and, where required, a Working with Children check.

Employment Conditions

Fixed‑term or permanent positions available, with possibility of extension and/or permanency. Total vacancies: 3.0 FTE.
