About the role

As a Community Engagement Worker and part of the Safe Night Out team this position provides direct and short-term respectful outreach support to people who are intoxicated or impacted by other drugs and who are in within the designated Safe Night Precinct. This assistance may be in the form of first aid or mental health assistance focusing on reducing the risk of harm and/or deterioration of health status. You will encourage people to take a rest, rehydrate, recover and connect with safe supports option such as family, friends and/or community, health or crisis services depending on what their needs are. You will maintain safe practices while working in public spaces during the late night to early morning ensuring you maintain positive communication with your team, and other key stakeholders (e.g. venue security, business owners) within the Safe Night Precinct Program

To be successful you will need

▪ Prior experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds, providing support and or undertaking casework. ▪ Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and connection with people experiencing alcohol and other drug challenges, mental health issues, homelessness and disconnected from family ▪ Understanding of public intoxication, addiction, homelessness, mental health and domestic / family violence issues. ▪ Ability to network and collaborate with First Responders, health and medical services and other service providers. ▪ Good communication, numeracy, administration, data entry and computer skills and the ability to learn IT systems. ▪ Ability (and willingness) to comply with policies, procedures, established practices and contract deliverables. ▪ Experience working with First Nations people, families, Organisations and communities.

✓ Evidence of qualifications or enrolment

✓ Satisfactory outcome of a current (less than 3 months old) National Criminal History Check





✓ Blue Card (QLD working with children card)

✓ QLD drivers’ licence ‘Class C’ or interstate equivalent

✓ Out of hours work IS required

✓ Ability (and willingness) to undertake local area / regional travel

✓ First Aid certificate and CPR certificate.
