ABC is looking for a Reporter to contribute to the national agenda on 7.30. This permanent, full‑time role is based in Ultimo, Sydney and offers a base salary of $105,000 to $128,000 plus rostered loading.

The Job

- Generate stories that reflect the diversity of Australian communities, including cultural, geographic and socio‑economic differences.
- Engage with communities in Australia’s outer suburbs to identify relevant story ideas.
- Create compelling long‑form current affairs stories with strong writing, investigative and storytelling skills.
- Produce priority, agenda‑setting stories that appeal to a broad Australian audience.
- Research story material, identify suitable sources, and conduct interviews for digital output.
- Stay informed on key political, social and economic issues.
- Build and maintain business, political and general contacts to generate unique story ideas and angles.
- Produce high‑quality digital content in line with ABC editorial standards.

About You

- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience.




- Strong reporting, writing and storytelling skills with a proven track record of breaking significant news stories.
- Experience in TV current affairs and feature‑length production and digital news.
- Strong understanding of political, social and economic issues.
- Good contacts across politics, business and the wider community.
- Resourceful, independent and a solid communicator.
- Passion for telling diverse Australian stories and an ability to create authentic content that reflects Australia’s cultural, linguistic and Indigenous communities.
