Primary objective
Lead the development of a centralised digital legal knowledge hub for the Director of Public Prosecutions through
identification, assessment and curation of legal materials, production of high-quality resources, including regular liaison with
the Director of Public Prosecutions on the legal position to be adopted by the office.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Audit and review CPD materials, submissions, precedents and legal resources.
2. Exercise sound legal judgment to assess relevance, accuracy, currency and appropriateness of materials and undertake
quality assurance.
3. Liaise with the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to matters requiring clarification or determination and the
position to be adopted by the Office on controversial legal issues.
4. Conduct legal research and prepare clear and practical case summaries, pro forma submissions, guidance notes and
precedents.
5.
Identify gaps in available materials and coordinate the sourcing or development of content to address those gaps.
6. Organise and populate the Office's Knowledge Hub to ensure accessibility, usability and logical structure.
7. Promote consistency of legal approach across the Office through the development and curation of authoritative
materials.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Admitted or eligible for admission as an Australian legal practitioner.
2. Demonstrated high-level legal capability, including strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply
complex legal principles.
3. Highly developed legal research and writing skills.
4. Demonstrated ability to critically assess legal materials in relation to criminal law matters, including submissions, case
law, and legislation, and determine their relevance and quality.
5. Demonstrated ability to synthesise complex legal material into explicit, practical and accessible summaries or precedents.
6. Sound legal judgment, including the ability to identify issues requiring escalation or senior determination.
7. Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy and manage competing priorities within strict timeframes.
8. Excellent written communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Desirable
1. Previous experience within a prosecuting agency, particularly practical experience as a prosecutor.
2. Knowledge of and experience in utilising shared online workspaces such as Sharepoint, document management systems,
or other legal technology tools supporting knowledge sharing and collaboration.
