About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Secretary/Receptionist to join our specialist surgical practice.
This is a part-time position working a five-day fortnight based in our Murdoch consulting rooms.
The successful applicant will support a General/Colorectal Surgeon and Rheumatologist.
You will be the welcoming face of the practice helping patients feel supported while managing the day-to-day clinic administration, patient enquiries, appointments theatre bookings, billing and key administrative tasks.
Job Description
Greeting and welcoming patients, scheduling appointments, patient billing and processing Medicare/DVA claims.
Processing patient enquiries via telephone, email and in-person.
General administrative functions including scanning, data entry and contributing to the efficient running of the clinic.
Liaising with other external healthcare providers, health funds, medical professionals and hospitals.
Preparing clinical correspondence and transcription typing
Processing theatre bookings and billing utilising Eclipse and managing patient billing inquiries
7. Assisting with patient follow-up communications and appointment reminders
Skills and Experience
Previous medical reception/secretarial experience is essential with a firm knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficiency with Genie software systems or a similar medical practice management system is highly regarded.
Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks effectively




Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients, clinical staff, and external contacts
Demonstrated understanding of patient confidentiality, privacy legislation, and healthcare compliance requirements
Caring, friendly and professional manner with an eye for details
Professional telephone manner and strong customer service skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team
