About us
Canning Eye Clinic is seeking a clinic assistant to join our team. We are a well-established Ophthalmologist practice based in Cannington.
Qualifications & experience
To be considered you will need:
medical or optometry clinic experience working in a busy role (coming from medical specialist assistant or reception or similar highly preferable
computer literate with Microsoft Word/Excel experience, and Genie/Best Practice/VIP medical software experience preferred.
Experience as an eye clinic assistant preferred,
mature person preferred.
excellent time management, organisation, accuracy, reliability and attention to detail
excellent attitude and communication skills
ability to work independently and cope under pressure
willingness to learn, to retain instructions, and to teach others.
a scientific evidence-based attitude to work-related health care decisions.
a qualified disposition and appearance• flexibility to cover other staff when required.
Tasks & responsibilities
The position is a long-term role for the right applicant. Previous medical clinical assistant and/or reception experience is preferred. You will be required to work at 1 to 3 days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays) but flexibility is essential for extra days depending upon workload.
The hours are usually 7:30 AM to 4.30 PM but depending on the day you may be required to occasionally finish later.



Flexibility is a must, with the right person being able to cover for holidays/sick leave.
Ophthalmic assistant duties will be required so must have a willingness to learn. Previous assistant experience is helpful, but not essential. Training will be provided.
These duties include taking details from referral letters, recording a medical history, testing visual acuity, applying eye drops as directed, using various ophthalmic devices for testing glasses, autorefraction, pressures, visual fields, and eye imaging, checking clinical letters before emailing.
Sterilisation and maintenance of clinical equipment, maintain stocks and correct storage of clinical supplies, ordering supplies.
setting up medical rooms for the start of the clinic, occasionally opening and closing of practice.
Extra office duties can include answering incoming phone calls and assisting patients with general enquiries• arranging, rescheduling and confirming appointments.

A few hours weekly of paid training is essential before the job starts.
