Due to expanded services, there are some new opportunities open for a full-time mentor in our employment program.
About the role:
Aboriginal Employment Support Officer (full time with possibility of part-time) -
The Aboriginal Mentor role is one of several roles in the employment program.
The role is instrumental in motivating and supporting Aboriginal participants to remain free of the criminal justice system and when suitable, assist in their journey to employment.
The role may also have some program delivery responsibilities, either in the community or within a prison environment, depending on the experience of the successful applicant.
Our core purpose is to prepare and support Aboriginal participants who have recent connection with the criminal justice system remain outside the system and when suitable to enter and remain in work.
Aboriginal Mentors will be critical to meet this purpose
and support participants manage a range of personal issues, add stability to their lives and overcome barriers to gaining and retaining employment.
The role requires full understanding of social and emotional wellbeing, excellent communication skills, ability to develop trust with participants, thorough working knowledge of Aboriginal culture, impacts of past trauma issues and ability to be flexible and creative in providing service.
Formal qualifications will be very well regarded, but not necessary.
About you:




To be best prepared for the role you will have at least 3 years relevant work experience in mentoring Aboriginal people.
Ideally you will have a mentoring qualification in addition to experience.
Any form of mentoring and coaching could prepare you well for the role.
You will work with a degree of autonomy, be a part of a team and must be keen to support participants on their journey.
You will have a strong understanding of local Aboriginal culture.
We see Aboriginal identity as a genuine employment requirement for the role.
You will have quality networking skills, be confident motivating participants, have resilience when it comes to managing a caseload with complex needs and have sound admin and document handling skills.

Essential Criteria:
1. Have at least 3 years working as a mentor and provide an outline of this mentoring and/or coaching.
2. Aboriginal person: Ebenezer Aboriginal Corporation considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under s 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act **** (WA).
3. "C" class automatic driver's licence.
Holding or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Card, National Police Clearance and a Senior First Aid Certificate.
4. Be self-motivated, have good communication and administration skills.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Have Certificate level or higher relevant qualifications, or extensive work experience.
2. Identify as Christian and/or demonstrated ability to uphold the values of the organisation.
3. Past personal experience, especially in a role negotiating directly with motivating Aboriginal people within the employment services industry.
