Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced grants writers to join the Northern Health Foundation team.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub‑acute, mental health, specialist, community and home‑based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north. Services are provided through our six main campuses: Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital. In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About the Role:

The Grants Writer and Philanthropy Specialist is responsible for identifying, researching, developing and securing funding opportunities from a range of funding sources to support the strategic priorities of Northern Health and the Northern Health Foundation. Key funding sources include philanthropic trusts and foundations, corporate foundations, State and Federal Government agencies and other community grant programmes.

The role reports to Executive Director, Public Affairs and Foundation and will work closely with the Deputy CFO and the Business Support team to drive grant funding opportunities.

This role works collaboratively across Northern Health to develop compelling funding proposals, grant applications,



impact reports and acquittals that demonstrate the health service's vision, priorities and community impact.

The role plays a critical role in growing philanthropic / grant income to support innovative healthcare programmes, medical equipment, capital projects, research, education and patient‑centred initiatives that benefit the diverse communities of Melbourne's northern region.

This role is responsible for:

- Researching and identifying funding opportunities from trusts, foundations, government departments, corporate giving programmes and community funding sources.
- Developing and maintaining a comprehensive grants pipeline and funding calendar.
- Monitoring emerging funding trends and identifying opportunities aligned with Northern Health's strategic priorities.
- Preparing recommendations regarding the suitability and likelihood of success of funding opportunities.
- Maintaining a database of funding opportunities, prospects and application outcomes.
- Leading the preparation, writing, editing and coordination of high‑quality grant applications and funding submissions.
- Working with clinicians, researchers, operational leaders and executives to gather information and develop funding proposals.
- Translating complex clinical, research and health service initiatives into compelling, donor‑focused narratives.
- Developing clear cases for support, project summaries and outcome frameworks.
- Ensuring all submissions meet funding guidelines, eligibility requirements and deadlines.
- Coordinating budget development in partnership with Finance and project leads.
- Monitoring funding agreements and reporting obligations.
- Preparing grant acquittals, impact reports and progress updates for funders.





To be successful in this role you will have:

- Experience and good working knowledge of grant writing, fundraising, philanthropy, business development, communications or proposal writing.
- Proven ability to develop successful funding submissions or grant applications.
- Exceptional written communication and editing skills.
- Solid storytelling ability combined with analytical thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex information into clear and persuasive funding proposals.
