Role Description The Senior Mental Health Clinician will provide advanced clinical assessment, treatment planning, and evidence-based interventions to individuals, families, and groups within Eastern Health’s mental health services. This part-time, on-site role, located in the Greater Melbourne Area, involves coordinating care with multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with internal and external service providers, and contributing to discharge and recovery planning. The clinician will offer clinical leadership, supervision, and mentoring to junior staff and students, promoting best practice and consistent clinical standards.

Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining accurate clinical documentation, participating in case conferences and service meetings, contributing to quality improvement initiatives, and ensuring care aligns with Eastern Health’s values and relevant legislation.



The role also includes engaging consumers and families in shared decision-making, supporting culturally safe care, and promoting community engagement and continuity of care.

Qualifications

Relevant tertiary qualification in psychology, social work, occupational therapy, mental health nursing, or related discipline, with current professional registration or eligibility as required (e.g., AHPRA or equivalent).

Extensive experience in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and formulation, including risk assessment, crisis intervention, and development of recovery-oriented treatment plans.

Proficiency in delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions (such as CBT, DBT, trauma-informed approaches, family work) for a range of mental health presentations across diverse populations.

Demonstrated skills in clinical leadership, staff supervision, mentoring, and contribution to multidisciplinary team decision-making and service development.

Strong communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport, manage complex situations, and work effectively with consumers, families, carers, and partner agencies.

Experience working in public mental health or community-based settings, with understanding of relevant legislation, ethical practice, and safeguarding and safety standards.

Ability to contribute to quality improvement, service evaluation, and implementation of best-practice guidelines, including participation in training, research, or service development projects.
