NRL is an operating division of the St Vincent?s Institute of Medical Research (SVI) whose mission is to produce world class science: inspired by discovery, driven by purpose. Contracted by the Department of Health and licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), NRL collaborates with scientific partners worldwide in the promotion of accurate diagnosis and management of human communicable diseases, including but not limited to HIV, HCV and HTLV. It does this by providing specialised services, including pre- and post-market evaluations of test kits, provision of quality assurance programmes to laboratories, specialised testing services, and consultation, education, and training for laboratories nationally and internationally.
NRL holds the unique position of being the only organisation world-wide that delivers this full suite of services with significant future opportunities to significantly grow NRL?s market and services globally. NRL?s main site is located at the St Vincent?s Hospital campus in Fitzroy.
The role
NRL has established a laboratory (in addition to its primary site at Fitzroy) in Notting Hill to perform high-throughput molecular screening. This service stream is responsible for screening up to 40,000 samples weekly.
We are seeking a Full-time Laboratory Technician to join our Notting Hill site and be responsible for performing laboratory related activities for high throughput Molecular testing, including the operation of automation, documentation preparation, consumable stocktake and ordering, sample pooling, testing, labelling, aliquoting,
receipting, processing of inbound/outbound shipments and result generation.
Whilst the primary place of work will be at the Notting Hill site there may be occasions where the incumbent may need to attend NRL?s primary site in Fitzroy as directed.

Who we are seeking
Our ideal candidate will have:
Essential experience
- Minimum of a certificate or diploma in laboratory technology or relevant laboratory experience
Highly desirable experience
- Experience in an automated laboratory environment
- Experience in a Molecular Biology laboratory
- Experience in operation of cobas 5800/6800, cobas p512, Hamilton Star
- Experience in receiving and processing of laboratory specimens
- Experience working in a team setting
- Experience in maintenance of laboratory equipment
- Experience in using laboratory information management systems or relevant computer skills

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Organised, thorough and considered
- Confidence in working autonomously and applying sound decision making, but able to exercise appropriate judgement and seek advice and support as appropriate
- Able to troubleshoot unfamiliar scenarios or unexpected results, and apply critical thinking and common sense to a response and resolution
To be considered for this role, you shall be required to provide evidence you have permanent working rights in Australia or hold a relevant working visa with full working rights.
Salary Range: $62,019.95 - $64,527.96 per annum plus 12% superannuation. In addition, we offer up to $15,900 FBT exempt salary packaging and up to $2,650 FBT exempt meals and entertainment packaging. The salary applied will be dependent on the successful candidates' current level, experience, and qualifications.
