Austate Services is a family-owned business with over 30 years of experience in the manufacturing and fabrication of high-quality road transport equipment. We specialise in the custom manufacture of Trailers and Truck bodies and in the repair and restoration of heavy vehicles in addition to Sales and Servicing.

The position will operate from within the workshop and assist with the manufacture and repairs of truck bodies and trailers.

The role

This role is for a short term period only (up to 3 months).

Workshop hours are 7.00am - 3.00pm (day shift)

Overtime available - overseas applicants need not apply

Key Activities (but not limited to):

- Perform multi-position flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) on high-strength steel trailer chassis and superstructures in all positions (flat, vertical, horizontal, overhead) to achieve full penetration on load-bearing joints.

- TIG welding on stainless steel hydraulic piping, tank assemblies,



and precision-fit joints requiring visual or pressure-tested quality standards.

- Interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and dimensional tolerances to fabricate and assemble trailer components including chassis frames, pipe supports, ladder assemblies, and custom mounting brackets.

- Perform controlled multi-pass welding on V-groove joints from 6mm to 20mm thickness, ensuring structural integrity for heavy transport equipment.

- Calibrate and operate automatic CO₂ welding systems, oxy-acetylene cutting equipment, and pneumatic power tools; adjust voltage and amperage settings based on material specifications.

- Inspect welds for defects, conduct leak checks where required, and ensure work complies with structural welding standards and project specifications.

Key Skills
- Trade Certificate (111 or higher) is desirable

- Experience in metal construction, fabrication or maintenance

- TIG/MIG welding skills and experience

- Good planning and organisational skills

- Ability to read drawings

- Speak and understand fluent English

We are located in the easily accessible suburb of Minto which is a 20-minute walk from the nearest train station. Our site is only 3 minutes away off the Hume Highway
