- Base Salary from $ 126,065 ( pro-rata) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking an experienced and strategic Finance Manager to provide financial leadership and operational support to the School of Rural Health (Dubbo/Orange) .

Deliver financial services aligned with strategic priorities, driving continuous improvement in financial processes, and actively contribute to shaping business decisions. They also provide authoritative financial guidance and risk management expertise and actively participate in the development and enhancement of finance-related policies and procedures.

The Finance Manager works under broad direction, translating accountabilities into tasks to deliver against goals. They are a subject matter expert, provide sound advice and recommendations, resolve complex matters and escalated issues related to their responsibilities.

Reporting to the School Manager and supporting the Head of Clinical School, the Finance Manager leads planning and operational committees, overseeing financial matters for the School of Rural Health’s budget with increasing complexity and strategic importance. They manage the School of Rural Health’s (Dubbo/Orange) reporting and compliance ensuring accurate information on university systems and adherence to work area requirements. The Finance Manager works in collaboration with other members of the leadership team and provides support to the School of Rural Health (SRH) in relation to their portfolio area.

This position will work with other School staff to support and enhance rural research activity, student placements and multidisciplinary learning experiences in rural areas in accordance with the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training (RHMT) Program parameters, Murray Darling Medical Schools Network (MDMSN) Program funding and Sydney Medical Program (SMP). This position ensures compliance with relevant legislative and regulatory controls and ensures a safe working workplace for all staff and students in accordance with The University of Sydney policy.

This position is located at Dubbo. Travel between Dubbo and Orange is a requirement of this position with infrequent travel to Sydney.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

- oversee financial matters for the School of Rural Health’s budget

- deliver comprehensive financial services tailored to the needs of the School of Rural Health (Dubbo/Orange), aligning with Faculty strategic priorities

- contribute to shaping business decisions within the School of Rural Health (Dubbo/Orange) addressing financial capability and performance

- provide authoritative financial guidance and risk management across the School of Rural Health (Dubbo/Orange)

- participate in processes such as development and review of finance related policy and procedure, financial management initiatives and changes to practice

- engage and build strong stakeholder relationships across the rural clinical schools and faculty finance teams

- manage School of Rural Health’s (Dubbo/Orange) reporting and compliance

- contribute to development of School of Rural Health’s (Dubbo/Orange) budgets ensuring expenditure aligns with approval financial plans for the work area

- coordinate and consolidate financial reports for the School of Rural Health’s (Dubbo/Orange) Programs required for the Rural Clinical Schools

- manage staff within the portfolio

- undertakes ad-hoc projects and other activities.

About you

- CPA or CA accreditation is required

- equivalent combination of training and experience

- significant experience in budget development and reporting

- demonstrated experience in financial investigative processes

- experience with costing and quality control

- experience working in a large and complex organisation

- experience in financial planning and analysis

- experience interpreting and applying accounting standards

- demonstrated experience in supervision, training mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues

- demonstrated experience working both independently and in a team environment, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work

- advanced computer skills including high level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Email and a range of Internet applications

- compliance with the Public Health (COVID-19 Vaccination of Health Care Workers) Order 2021

- current Driver’s License.
