Portfolio Management Office – Infrastructure & Operations
Based at Sir Albert Abbott Administration Building (Mackay CBD)
Mackay Regional Council is seeking a Portfolio Governance Support Officer to join the Portfolio Management Office (PMO). This is an excellent opportunity for a capable and organised professional to build their experience across project governance, systems, reporting and continuous improvement while contributing to effective project delivery across Council.
Working within a supportive PMO environment, you will contribute to the tools, frameworks, reporting and documentation that help projects stay well managed, consistent and aligned with Council’s project practices. The role suits a proactive professional who values accuracy, initiative and continuous improvement.
About this opportunity:
This is a varied role within Council’s Portfolio Management Office, where you will help support the frameworks, systems and reporting that underpin effective project delivery.
Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Governance & Scheduling Officer, you will assist across project and portfolio management activities, including maintaining the Enterprise Project Management Framework (EPMF), project systems, governance tools and status reporting. You will also work closely with the Coordinator Portfolio Management and the broader PMO team to support consistent, well-managed and high-quality project practices across Council.
In this role, you will:
- Support project and portfolio management activities across the Portfolio Management Office
- Assist with the development, maintenance and ongoing improvement of the Enterprise Project Management Framework (EPMF)
- Help maintain and improve project management systems, templates, governance tools and status reporting
- Contribute to process development, documentation control and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide coordination and administrative support to the Coordinator Portfolio Management and the broader PMO team
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and contribute to a professional, positive and solutions-focused team environment
About You
You are an organised and proactive professional with experience supporting project, governance or coordination functions. You bring strong systems capability, sound judgement and a collaborative approach, with the confidence to work across processes, documentation and reporting while contributing practical ideas that support continuous improvement. Just as importantly, you will reflect Mackay Regional Council’s signature traits—demonstrating curiosity by identifying opportunities to improve systems and processes, building connection through effective stakeholder support, showing courage in contributing ideas and exercising sound judgement, maintaining commitment to accurate and timely governance support, and bringing care to the way you work with colleagues and deliver outcomes.
To succeed in this role, youwill have:
- A current C class driver licence
- Relevant qualifications in a related field such as project management or business
- Knowledge of project management principles and systems
- Experience in process development, system updates and the Microsoft Office Suite including Project, Power BI Visio and Sharepoint Online.
- Approximately three years’ experience in a similar project, governance or coordination support role
- Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement and the ability to contribute practical improvement ideas
- A collaborative, positive and professional approach to working with others
